Anyone with a new-gen 250 near Greenville, SC?
Sorry for making a topic for this, but it'll benefit a lot of us so I hope you'll forgive me, haha.
After swearing at my wheels while swapping them last weekend, I bugged Fast Frank Racing to see if they could make captive spacers for the 250, and potentially a full quick change axle kit. He said he'd look into it and try to find a bike near him but I figure I could help. Shoot me a PM if you're in the area and I'll put you in touch with him! |

Once my garage empty's out of all the extra bikes I'm going to take my spacers off and prototype some, then go turn some at my uncles house.
Also saw a good way to make the rear caliper captive going to do that this winter as well.

Don't forget custom tails as well, I think this winter is going to be full of fun 250 mods

Yeah, all of the captive bits aren't super difficult, I just think it'd be nice to have a source to buy from rather than everyone having to get custom bits. Plus those quick change axles are awesome.
Drew, is this the captive rear brake you mean? |

Yeah same here, don't "need" a quick change rear or front, and no way in hell I'm paying $450 for one. Just want some captive spacers.

Yeah they're way too pricey for my blood too, I just think they're cool, haha. I told him that I don't think there'd be a big enough market for the quick change axles but there definitely would be one for captive spacers.

Actually, I may just print some of these for a caliper holder. Would be extremely cheap and quick to print.

Ah, that's one of those doohickeys where basically it holds it there then you knock it out when reinstalling the axle, right?

I guess you slide it in as you slide the axle out? and vice versa

Since there's 3 250's currently at my house I'm going to test it on one tonight and make changes.

Cut it down, worked ok, caliper stayed in place but it still can be a pain, changed the rear tire several time yesterday afternoon and it did go much smoother.
![]() ![]() While I had the rear off, I looked at the rear spacers and took some measurements, will hopefully print some prototype captive spacers today and test them out this weekend!

Awesome! Does the spacer being plastic effect it at all compared to aluminum ?

If you bring one (of the caliper holders) to the next MCRA track event, I'll buy one from you for a reasonable sum.
Though the real killer for the quick wheel change was not having an extra set of brake rotors for my rains...ouch. Gonna have to fix that as soon as I see a likely set on ebay... Last futzed with by krakatak; October 12th, 2013 at 03:49 PM. Reason: disambiguation |

Hey Drew, what were you thinking for the front wheel? I think for weight purposes you can remove not only the speedo piece, but also remove a clip and pull out the ridged piece on the front wheel that hooks into the speedo (if that made any sense at all, haha).
