I'm planning to arrive around 11:30 or so, but Ironhorse check in isn't until 3 I think, so I may not go straight there. We should have a place chosen for everyone to meet for lunch. Any ideas?

I plan on being in Townsend for lunch, there is (or was at least) a cool drive in kind of place where I had a Fritos pie.

We will be doing cherohala skyway, to the dragon, Townsend for lunch, then Cade's cove parsons branch, back to 129, hit up deals gap for her stickers and my replacement shirt.
Thinking hellbenders possibly. We are going crazy for our first day

You should camp at the Ironhorse and we can eat and hang out after riding all day! The food there is DELICIOUS!

Unfortunately Townsend is an hour and 22 minutes from the Ironhorse and farther north than I need to travel to hit the Cherohala or the Dragon.
Let's take a vote. For those who want to meet up around lunch time, would you all rather meet at the foot of the Dragon's Tail in Deal's Gap or at the foot of the Cherohala Skyway? The Dragon's Tail is 11 miles, so we could ride it a few times. The Cherohala is a good 40+ miles long, so be sure to fuel up before you get there. I'll be arriving around lunch time, just need to know where the majority of us will be. We need a poll. @Alex, can we add a poll to this thread?
Let's establish a meeting place! Around noon, give or take:
Telico Plains, TN - One end of the Cherohala (there's a busy gas station here)
Robbinsville, NC - 20 mins from the other end of the Cherohala (There are places to eat and fuel up here)
Deals Gap Motorcycle resort - Robbinsville, NC (at one end of the Dragon's tail)
Random gas station - (on the Tennessee end of the Dragon's Tail)

Any other suggestions???

**Edit: Robbinsville is the center point and is close to both the Cherohala and right there at the Gap. It gets my vote.

Just checked the forecast, looks like a slight chance of rain on saturday and we're good sunday. I'm probably going to wear my textile jacket instead of my race suit (more comfortable for a long trip anyway I think)

^ forgot about food, meeting up somewhere where I can get a relaxing bite to eat and a break from riding before some more riding would be great for me.

I'll be in full leathers. I always am in major twisties. Do what makes you comfortable, but beware that we will hit some pretty technical corners. It also may be cool at the higher elevations, particularly on the Cherohala Skyway.

I'm fine with that, but there aren't many places to eat in Tellico that I'm aware of. Do you know of any? If not, that gas station right at the end of the Cherohala is the only place I know of to suggest meeting.

Krambonz, Tellicafe, Tellico Katz Deli. those are all within 5 minutes ride from the gas station.

robbinsville would be cool as well. i'm game for that and would work maybe better even...

Didn't mean it to come across condescending. Through the years, I've met many people who were ill-prepared for what the tail is, (and I was one of them my first time on it!) so I just had to throw that out there. I can't remember, have you ridden it before?

Robbinsville works fine for me too. Do we want to go ahead and decide to meet in Robbinsville around noon? We could meet at the Deal's Gap Motorcycle Resort 17548 Tapoco Road Robbinsville, NC 28771. We could grab a bite at the cafe there and figure out our route for the rest of the day...either starting with the Tail or with the Cherohala. We'd be slap dab in the middle of the two choices rather than starting on one end of one of them.

I highly reccommend "The Hub" in Robbinsville to grab a bite to eat. I was going to have Draik's race 250 setup there as they are one of his sponsors but we'll be at Barber instead...

But still...go there to eat and tell them TheDraik77 sent you

Didn't mean it to come across condescending. Through the years, I've met many people who were ill-prepared for what the tail is, (and I was one of them my first time on it!) so I just had to throw that out there. I can't remember, have you ridden it before?
I have not, I do regularly ride some very twisty roads though but I expect the tail to be a step up from them.

I also don't intend to ride fast through the tail of the dragon as crashing that far from home would be a nightmare and reducing speed is the easiest way to reduce risk.

I am sure Unregistered would come up with a trailer and quickly rescue you.

I agree. I hate riding street corners honestly, especially since I learned the art of true cornering that can only be experienced at the track. I enjoy mountain rides more for scenic purposes than balls-to-the-walls riding. That said, hazards are quite common and frequently occurring up that way...other vehicles in your lane around a blind corner, bears, slicks, rocks, gravel, dips in the pavement, you name it. Shaving off speed is super important, but it's still a risk. Crashing WOULD be a nightmare, and like you, I don't plan to do it. But it would be even more hellish if I crashed and was injured, so gearing up just in case a random black bear walks across our path.

I may still wear my one piece, it depends entirely on the weather potential. I don't like how leather reacts to rain.

Lol, I don't know how quick it would be, at the minimum 3 hours I'm guessing.

Can't give me crap about a trailer...I'm bringing 2 bikes for myself

Telico Plains, TN - One end of the Cherohala (there's a busy gas station here)
Robbinsville, NC - 20 mins from the other end of the Cherohala (There are places to eat and fuel up here)
