What a sportbike can really do...

I would be happy to confidently lean over half as far as this guy. Amazing stuff!

Reminds me of my AutoX days. SCCA held Solo I and Solo II races at local parking lots and landing strips but I have never seen motorcycle racing setup around here. I imagine it would make a good amount of loot and provide people with a safe place to get on the throttle.

Those were definitely impressive... the 1st clip seems like the course is a little more technical, but both are really cool to watch!!

If you look at that first video, you will notice how he totally looks through every turn, his head is always into the turn, never looking down.
Not at all that I can do that, but one of the tricks is to keep your speed up a little - that's much easier than wobbling and trying to balance at really low speed, like 2mph or less.
There are also videos of motorcycle cops on the big 800 lb. Harleys doing those tight maneuvers through a cone obstacle course - amazing what you can do with training and practice.

Motorcycle Gymkhana. The ****! The 250 is very good bike for this, being that most people put handlebars on their bikes anyway to achieve the clearances clip-ons can't afford, and the 250 already comes with the perfect handlebars. Let's start something in the states, no?

Look at the size of the rear tire. Dose not look like he needs more traction than that . Also try that with a 600 . Light fun bikes are just as cool as scarry fast ones. It is not about balls. It is about skill and practice.
I wish the manufactures would stop making little bikes only for beginneers and make some little bikes with top shelf components. End of rant. Sorry. The is so cool to watch and. I can relate to it better than stuff like moto GP.

These should be in the "How to scuff in new tires" thread. They were good, but the LEOs doing essentially the same thing at slower speeds on their big honking bikes is actually more impressive.

I think in some ways these events may be harder on sportbikes than more standard machines. One characteristic of sportbikes (but not necessarily our 250) is limited steering lock as the forks get wider/stiffer/steeper. Standard machines, even those big old Harleys, often have more steering lock to allow for sharp low-speed turns. It was clear on that 600 that the bars were at full lock for some of those tighter turns, and the bike needed tremendous lean angle in addition to the full lock in order to complete the turn in the proper radius.

On some parts of the video I dont see alot of clutch manipulation. What's the concept behind those tight turns? From what I gather, confidence, throttle control, and just "fly" with the bike (for lack of a better word).

I think it's mostly body position and excellent throttle control. Balance is key here, I think. Those who want, send me a PM, I'll get a set and make a video, or what else do you want? I know not of a sanctioned Ghymkana happening in CO.... If you do, let me know...

If I lived near you I'd totally be down to record it and even attempt it. I'm seriously considering finding a clean parking lot, putting some cones down and practicing this. No matter how you look at it, it's awesome and would help wonders with the slow hairpin twisties near me.

Very cool.

What I noticed is very relaxed body positioning with no hanging off or knees sticking out.

#73 in the second video is riding a sweet little two stroke. I wonder what that bike is?

Great riding abilities! Obviously not there first rodeo. It looked like they all had very soft compound slicks? I would have to have the crash bars or sliders like the stunt riders have. Awesome videos.

That type of maneuvering is very typical for police training. You can find a bunch of videos of police officers doing the same stuff on bigger cruisers. If I recall correctly theres a training school in Michigan or something that is open to the public to learn how to do that. But it is none the less awesome! And I wish I could ride like that.

Notice in the first video that he was riding the rear brake almost the entire time. You can see the rear brake light clearly on and his foot is on the brake. I think this helps a lot with low speed maneuvering. Either way, that video is both impressive and inspirational. I'll never get that good but there's a lot of room to improve ;-)
