GP shift mod, shogun sliders picts
i've mentioned in several threads on this board and the kawi boards that i was going to take picts of the modified countershaft cover to clear the gp shift mod. we've also discussed the merits of frame sliders and the fact that many of us arnt happy with the design of the intuitive sliders. well, my dad picked up a shogun slider kit.
here is a pict of the countershaft cover. note that we had to cut the top out to let the bar for the shogun kit clear: the shogun kit is kinda cool cause it has a bar wtih 2 mounting points. i think its probably going to do a pretty good job of stiffining up the chassis as well as helping to protect the motor. it also came with these nice looking barends and rear spools. i wasn't here when my dad installed it, but his only complaint was that he wasn't very impressed with the quality of the hardware. mainly the new motor mount bolts supplied.

i guess somebody had ordered them through cyclegear, but never picked them up. they offered it to my dad for about $190 for the whole kit.... not sure what the retail is suppose to be.

Did your dad remove the radiator hose on the left side or did he just remove the radiator itself? How did he get past that hose on the left side?

i know he didn't remove the hose. i'm sure he just worked around it. doubt he pulled the radiator loose, but he might have.

Could you do me a favor? Could you ask him how he dealt with that side? I would be very much interested to hear how he worked around that hose. I am myself considering getting this kit since I know someone who is selling it for a good price.

he said he just slid it in behind the hose. no problems.
he's a little worried about pinching the hose if you go down on that side. i think you're going to have bigger things to worry about if you're taking that much damage right there (like radiator getting smashed up first), but i guess getting the hose pinched between body work and that bar might be a concern. i don't think it'll be a problem though. the sliders should keep it off the pavement anyways.

Nice bike Broom I have the same slider kit on my bike do you know how much torque your dad used for the engine bolts? or did he just hand tightened it snug, I set my torque wrench to 45 lbs and coated the bolt threads with anti-seizing grease (I hope its enough) btw nice paint job is your bike setup for racing only or is it a street bike as well? got any pics of it now? oh which rear sets did you install? Thanks

its racing only. i should have it back from the suspention tuner and dyno in a week. once we get it back we're doing final prep for our first race in feb and i'll take lots of picts.
i dunno how much torque he used. i'm sure it was just hand tightened, but he might have used whatever the shop manual said to use. locktight is a good idea. the rearsets are woodcraft.

Would not be easier to just weld a tab on top of the shifter for the end link. Instead of cutting the cover.

these have now been crash tested. there was a big discussion on the "other forum" about sliders being a good idea or not since they would cause the bike to flip, bend the frame or break motor mounts if the slider dug into dirt or hit something solid.
well these just break off at the weld! my bike went down on a wet racetrack, slid off course and after about 15 feet in the mud and grass the slider mounting tab snaped off the bar. (see this pict for reference) basically we just have to weld the tab back on, which is not a big deal. i think they did a nice job, but they still didn't save my body work from some good damage. look ma, no slider! (pict after 2 low sides on the left side. slider broke off in the first wreck)

i had three days on the bike, one of them in the rain, and never crashed. my teamates in the endurance race (rain) were the ones doing all the crashing. they're sore, but ok.

You plan on reinforcing the tab more when you weld it back on? If so, what are you going to do to try and prevent the tab from breaking off again? Just beefier welds? Extra supports? etc.

we'll make sure we have a solid weld, but i actually think it was a good thing it broke off since its probably more likely to do more harm than good once it leaves the pavement.
