Troubleshooting '08+ CDI with '88-94 Service Manual

The following thread by .Kit (Kris) encouraged me to provide this info:

http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=32814

Kris' kill-switch is not working and the problem "might" be the CDI (Ignitor). Unfortunately the '08+ Service Manual only details how to do a voltage check!

The following info on troubleshooting the '08+ CDI is extracted from the '08 Service Manual:

In my research for a cure of the CDI/Tachometer variance, along with help from Racer-X (Eric), I became pretty familiar with the wiring of both the post and pre gens. The '88-94 Service Manual goes into depth on troubleshooting the CDI.

Hopefully, with the info I'm going to present, one (Kris) can use it to diagnose his problem with the CDI (If it really is the CDI)!!

I used the following '88-94 pin out chart to help create the cross reference detailed below:

The following picture cross references post and pre gen terminal numbers (this is an updated picture from the CDI conversion thread):

The following picture (from the '88-94 Service Manual) was modified to reference the '08+ CDI terminal numbers:

Hopefully this info will provide more detailed diagnostics than the '08+ Service Manual.

+2 sweet. Awesome information. Thank you! Dealing with an ugly nor'easter today so I hope to get out in the garage and pull the CDI to test it.

That info isnt in the 08 manual.

Also, if you start reading resistance on electronic parts. Best make sure your meter is 10meg ohm per volt, or better.

Exactly! One of the reasons I'm glad I downloaded the "older" manual. It goes into a LOT more detail in almost every chapter.

Look for "Kawasaki EX 250 - GPX 250 '88 - Service Manual Supl.pdf" on the 'net!
