Ididaride Challenge

Right oh folks, for those of you who have been following this thread:

http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=58010

You know all about the Idadaride. This is the place to post all the necessary information to play the game.

For those of who don't know what the Idadaride is, it's a challenge to ride in sub-freezing temp, so below 32F or 0C. Other factors like precipitation and wind are taken into account, and so is time and distance.

To play, you must provide this information every time you want a ride to count:
- air temp
- wind chill
- Time + Date
- road conditions
- distance traveled

You can provide this information either through a video or a set of pictures. If you edit the video, and please feel free to, please provide the date and time on a cell phone or other sort of time synchronized device (computer, etc).
Same for photos, a photo with the odo reading and cell phone would work great, and then another one at the end of the ride. Also, a picture of the road conditions with the cell phone would be good.
This is just to make sure people don't get a little bit overzealous with their claims. Riding in the cold does funny things to a person's mind...

Here are the rules:

1.) YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED OR FORCED IN ANY WAY TO PLAY. IF YOU DO, AS IN ALL SITUATIONS, YOU ARE TAKING YOUR LIFE INTO YOUR OWN HANDS. YOU ARE NOT ENCOURAGED TO TAKE PART IN THIS. IT IS DANGEROUS, AND SHOULD BE AVOIDED. THIS IS ANOTHER WAY TO ENJOY MOTORCYCLING, AND IT MAKES YOU A GOOD RIDER, IF YOU DON'T GET HURT. CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED. THE REWARDS DO NOT OUT-WEIGHT THE CONSEQUENCES. THE CONSEQUENCES ARE POSSIBLY LIFE-LONG INJURY OR DEATH. THE REWARDS ARE YET TO BE DECIDED AND THE TITLE OF "BAD-ASS OF THE SEASON", OR "DUMB-ASS OF THE SEASON", PICK YOUR CHOICE.

2.) You must provide ALL the information listed above for EACH ride, or the submission will be marked null and void, and therefor NOT COUNTED.

3.) Ninjette.org is not implicated, or responsible, nor through proxy directly involved with this ride, and by participating, you DO NOT have the right to exact any legal, physical, mental or emotional repercussions against Ninjette.org in any way what-so-ever.

4.) The challenge will run from 00:00 (24:00) December 1st, 2010 till 23:59 January 31st, 2011. Submissions before or after these dates will be null and void and therefor WILL NOT COUNT.

5.) All entries will be scored by me (Spooph), and the results will be posted HERE by 23:59 February 15, 2011. As I mentioned in the other thread, if anybody wants to help me with this, or even just verify scores, I'd appreciate the help, but won't mind doing it alone. I will be using Domagoj's calculator to score all entries. This calculator and instructions are attached, so that you can calculate each ride for yourself and see how things go. If you want to help me out, and calculate your score for each ride, it will make things easier for me - I'll be calculating each score again after Jan 31st, but it's nice to have somebody check me.

The prize is yet to be decided. Please voice your opinion about the prize here:
http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=58010
so as to keep this thread as clutter-free as possible, with hopefully just the entries of each ride for easy scoring. Obviously, compliments to each player are encouraged and you shouldn't hold back if you feel the need...

Dang, right, glad that's done. I think I covered all the basis...

Nice job forming the rules btw!

Blast, this is too complicated. I have to carry a ton of gadgets with me to document the 15 minutes ride. A camera, cell phone, thermometer, take all the pictures, stuff it all in the backpack and repeat when i get to work

My hands are cold and i dont want to do this
I think ill be running and unofficial score for myself just to see how i did.

K, so I guess I'll be the first to post up: Does this count? The pictures maybe took 2 minutes total to snap...

Just a regular commute to work, aside the fog. Which is a kick in the pants to ride in. I was surprised at how warm I was for 21F. I even left a sweater I usually put on below freezing, at home....

By the time I got to work, the fog had given me a solid layer of ice. Glad the gloves have a build in ice-scraper...

11.6 miles to work.
21minutes
Roads dry
No wind

According to the calculator: 13.58

Nice, dude you have to but some new lights in your gauge cluster like mines, gets rid of that cheap look. Don't think I'll ever ride in weather that cold it was pretty decent weather later today though. Got me some new sidi boots can't wait to try them out sat.

Merry Christmas fellow Ididaride players. Not official ride but I did about 1/2 hour ride: No wind, sunny, 38 degrees f. Nice warm day.

Brisk

Was 18 degrees when I left the house this morning for my 13 mile commute, most of which is 70+ highway speeds. My only heated gear was my gloves, which worked well enough. I covered the bike with a tarp and put a 100W light bulb under the oil filter last night, kept the bike warm enough that it started right up without a fight. This is a new personal record, hopefully more to come in the upcoming weeks.

Good grief the windchill must have been horrid.

Temps have been below freezing here for the last two weeks. I haven't been willing to chance it as we have had temps down in the low teens to mid twenties with too much moisture on the roads (frost/ice/snow). The days I thought I could ride, other stuff came up and I had to take the cage.

It's been unseasonably warm lately. Not even going to hit the teens again until day after tomorrow. Probably won't ride in, not because of the cold, but because of the ice and sleet that are predicted to come with it.

Almost 80°F day before yesterday.

Today's high was 20°F, and that was at 12:01 am. Temperature will be falling to the single digits tonight. The only reason I didn't ride to work today was the 2" of ice and sleet on the unsanded roads.

I would've ridden if I'd had a different bike, something with studded knobbies.

Officially: Entry submission closed as of 02/01/2011. Seems like this was a disaster. oh well....

However, if anybody would like to post up mo pics of their adventures in the cold, that would be awesome!

I will post pictures tonight once I get them off my camera.... I'm never riding below 40F again... Well, after I get home. -15F was enough to cure me of all desire to ride below a reasonable temperature ever again. And 40F is a reasonable temp... Ugh, just starting to feel human again after 2 hours of warming in the office...

Not a disaster Mr. Spooph. I'm sure this little experiment caused some discussion regarding cold weather riding and we all learned alot. (Heck now I am the owner of grip heaters and winter gloves because of this)

I thought about riding yesterday - dry conditions, blue skies, and a high of 18f......naaaaaaaa Learned that very specialized equipment is needed for this type of cold.

Hey, Ididaride

Next year run it another few weeks so us folks down here can get a chance to ride in the cold. It was 9 degrees this morning and is supposed to be 8 tomorrow morning, though I didn't ride *only* because the roads are still covered in ice.

Did you try to ride yesterday? cause if you did I will officially label you are insane lol. I would participate if it was like riding below 50 or something. 32 is much to cold for my blood. I did 37 F one time; didn't dig that lol.

It's not my contest.... nobody else protested against it. All this time I was under the presumption everybody decided together, following from the other thread. Oh wow. I must look like an ass... Oh well... Sure, why not keep it open till the end of February, that way Frugal gets to submit something...

Nissan, I didn't ride yesterday cause I was home sick - actually, just the buffer day to make sure that I was no longer sick, and wouldn't get everybody else in the office sick. But I did ride today...

Actually, I shouldn't smiley that... I couldn't see 75% of the time - stopped to scrape the inside of my visor 3 times, a total pain! I wasn't too cold though, which was surprising....

So, to kick off the entry-extension period, here ya go:
Here's my math:
Time: 7:21-6:46 = :35
Avg. Temp: (-15.6+-14)/2x = 14.8
Distance: 40096.0-40084.5 = 11.5
And there was snow.

Calculator says: 76.9pts.
