BT45 vs BT45G
I recently ordered a set of BT45 and received the BT45-G instead. The sizes are the same but I was wondering if they're still good to go? Are they made of a different compound than the regular BT45? The Bridgestone website doesn't list the "G" but I've shot them an email asking.

It looks like those were the OEM tires on the GS500F for awhile (link). I'd check the date code on them to make sure they aren't several years old, but if they aren't, they're probably fine. The OEM tires may be a smidge different here or there, but I wouldn't stress over it; they should be just fine.

If you click each, you get a different description for the BT45G lines, they say:-
"BT45 Sports mileage The UK's best selling H and V-rated bias-ply tyres Silica Rich compound for fast warm-up and secure wet road grip SACT technology means that the harder centre tread delivers economical mileage while the softer tread shoulders aid cornering grip" whereas the non BT45G desc only says: "Bridgestone Battlax BT45 Sport Milage (Rear) 130/70 -17H" The 'G' probably refers to a tyre that is original equipment for a bike at some time. Usually the 'original equipment' tyres have a slightly lower spec that the aftermarket ones. |

Bridgestone reply:
"The tires are the same, some manufacturers request a "OE Code" when fitting a tire as original equipment. " |

John is right. The G only means that the tire is oem on some bikes. They're identical to the non-G tires. I googled this when I was looking up tires.

Well, when I was trying to decipher this riddle, I ran into information that stated the "G" tire is for the Suzuki GS500 and the F model. The same information also stated that the tire was specifically made for the GS.
I would personally be wary, regardless of what the manufacturer said. I would probably request to have the aftermarket-spec tire personally. |

People have used that tire on the rear before. It should be just fine.

One pleasant thing about the rear BT45 is that it's a "wide" tire. For instance, my 130 rear is actually 138mm wide. It appears wider.
I imagine the 140 width would also be a "wide" 140, making it closer to 150mm wide? I dunno, but your bike looks great. You liking how they handle? I really like the grip from mine, but not the wear on the front. |

Yeah I've found that the rear wears normally, but the front has scalloped badly quickly with hard use. They stick like glue though, wet or dry. From that aspect, I've been quite happy.

I LOVE my BT45s!
Anything else looks silly on the pregen if you ask me. I like the "wide" tire. It makes it look less scooter-ee and more like a motorcycle. lol |

Jono, they do look great, but tires aren't a decorative object my problem with the front tire is annoying.
My next set will be Pirelli Diablo Scooter tires 100/80-16 front and 130/80-16 rear. I'm not so worried about the wide rear look at the moment. It's a 250. |

It all depends on what you are doing with your vehicle. For me... I don't do track days and will now go easy in the twisties, that is if I ever get my bike on the road again. I just want a good tire for commuting/easy backroad riding and the BT45s are the perfect tool for the job. And they feel more planted. Oh and the 90 profile raise the seat height (a plus for me since I am 6'1''.) |
