Exclamation Does this look safe?

So I need to get a stand out to Glendora this weekend (about 35 miles from me) and I need to bring my rear stand.... This is the only thing I could come up with, its a PITA to get on and off but it would make me think it would stay on better. Am I crazy?? What do you guys think?

looks like if you need to go full lock you'll be sol... maybe on the tail would be better? maybe you could put it on your shoulders and make a personal roll cage

If you're in an accident, that bar will go penetrate both your facesheild and your face, but other than that...

If you adjusted it so the rear tire still touches the ground on the stand, and held it in place with C-clamps, you could just ride like that, using the stand as training wheels.

I think if you don't crash then you could make any of those positions work... if you do crash I think that solid metal bar could do a lot of damage. I'd adhere to the age old saying: "plan for the best, expect the worst", and I wouldn't take the bar on my bike. Not worth it.

It either goes between you and your backpack, or if you have a metal-framed backpack, you ratchet-strap it to the pack.

I would use back seat area, and a bunch of bungee cords before I tried that.
It doesn't look secure at all.. I would think there would be a few, at least, ways that can come right at your face mid ride much less crash w/ it like that.

^^^Bring a different backpack then, Kev. Don't risk great bodily injury by strapping it to the bike!

Yep, pretty much.

On ADV, no one pays attention to me until they hear me say "That doesn't look safe." For some reason, that sets off alarms.

If YOU don't think it looks safe that's pretty much an automatic "death trap" label.

As far your set-up goes there Honey Badger... uh...

Death trap.

That wasn't me.
I had been practicing wheelies on my friend's bike (because...um...mine was easier to ride on one wheel than two the way I had it set up...) until he objected, and we went on a group ride. During that ride, he accidently wheelied and flipped it over. The pic is of him flipping it, not me.

Might be too late but I would strap it to the tail. Pointy part that is going to your face gets strapped to the passenger seat then with the wheels pointing upwards and spool fork thingys downwards strap that to the passenger pegs. Whole thing should sit like a saddle. I think that'd be the best way.

I carried a stand almost exactly like that once. I used that split foam pipe insulating stuff from lowe's to protect the bike. My stand was home made and didn't have a pipe sticking out like yours.

I carried one home from Harbor Freight sticking out of my backback with the arms on either side of my helmet. Got a few strange knocks on the way home.

When Skippii says it might not be safe, you should have the equivalent of massive sirens going off in your mind. To say he has been involved in some crazy sh*t is an understatement.

But, yeah, while you'd probably be fine, that is only true if you don't have some asshat make a left turn in front of you, or change lanes into you, etc. You can ride as careful as you like, but there is still risk of accident. And in an accident, that post could go through your face shield and kill you.

I'd take a car, call a friend if you don't have a car.

what about mounting it upside down on the spools and secure it with bungee cord or something to the back seat, passenger pegs or something?
