I've burnt 4 clutch cables in as many months!!
Why is this happening? I'm pretty sure I'm puttingg it on properly.. The only thing I noticed is that sometimes when I pull the clutch lever in, the clutch still grabs a little..

She's an 88 gpx 250r2 - is it an indication of a dodgy clutch.?

I don't want to get rid of my baby- she's almost a classic by now!

Where is the cable breaking at?

Cables don't break because excessive tension but because they are forced to bend many times at certain points due to poor installation.

Also make sure you the cable is lubed properly and that the adjuster's and locknut open slot is not shaving against the cable.

Are you getting an aftermarket cable, and was it the same one 4 times?

In the ballpark of 2 to 3 millimeters is OK, I see you have much more than that but that could be because the cable is frayed,
it should be lubed as well but you know that most likely
it also could be because the split where cable goes through right at the top maybe needs to be widened a hair
it looks like it is being sheered by the lack of clearance
you might want to spread that slit open wider a little bit
if it is rubbing their just take a flathead and pry it just a tiny bit,

The same path that it originally took. But i guess you don't remember now :D

If you think you are routing it wrong then find the path of least resistance, don't let it go around tight bends.

Did you replace with aftermarket or stock cable?

I have aftermarket as well, doesn't mean its won't work. It doesn't work great for me though, the cable housing sits in the way of the tachometer and blocks out part of the RPM, it also rubs on the housing of the tach, leaving marks. Do you find yours sits awkwardly different from the original? Since you have a different generation bike, i could only assume that an aftermarket cable could have its own issues on your bike.
