View Full Version : Leaks

I have two small leaks coming from the stator cover and the water pump. I am assuming the gasket is just bad on the stator and seal is broken on the water pump. Are there any good aftermarket parts or something I could use from an auto store? I was also reading I might need to replace the whole water pump. Is that accurate?

Thanks.

There are no fluids inside the generator cavity.
The pump connects to the transmission; so, any leak is from splashed oil.
I would suggest you to verify it is not just lube from the chain, which tends to get accumulated around the front sprocket.
If the pump leaks, it leaks coolant into the crankcase and makes the oil milky.

Definitely coolant from the pipe next to the water pump. I can not find a source anywhere and it is dripping so slow that I put a cup overnight and it might have had only a few drops in it. My coolent levels are still full in reservoir and the main pump. As far as what is on the stator cover it looks as if it is oil.

I will try to get clearer pics if needed.

warm the bike up and you'll see where the leaks are coming from

If only it were that easy. I have attempted this multiple times warming the bike up on the center stand or riding it around the neighborhood only to find the a drop of coolant in that same spot on the pipe along with the other leaks (If that is what they are).

I am going to try to replace the coolant hose since that is the only thing the that is connected to the pipe. Also, I have been having trouble with the curvy hose that connects to the airbox. There does seem to be oil around that as well that looks like it was leaking out. I got rid of the spring clamps on the airbox hose and got some screw clamps so that hose won't come off anymore. Hopefully these will solve the problem.

the crank case vent is what the twisty hose thing connects to and it definitely has oil there. could be where the oil came from easily. you want that connected to the airbox so **** doesn't get in there. i would check all the water hose clamps and try tightening them to make sure they're all nice and tight. if they are, inside the metal tube, there is a rubber o-ring that likes to melt and leak if the bike overheats a bit. (not uncommon for an older bike with ****** coolant that had sat for awhile before being used often) you can replace the oring on the metal pipe with a $0.10c high temp oring from autozone

I would wrap some toilet paper around the connections of the parts #39062F and 3202A overnight.

If the leak only happens when the engine is cool, it may be on the low pressure side, which is between the lowest connector of the radiator and the pump's intake.

Toilet paper has been an invention almost as useful as the wheel and the Internet. :) :) :)

I used to repair refrigerators and that was the only way to detect a microscopic leak of gas; as oil dissolved in Freon 12 and circulated through the system, there was always a tiny stain of oil at that pin-hole.

I was able to mess with the bike today and found a hairline crack in the metal pipe that is leaking the coolant. Is there any way to mend this like jb weld or will it not be able to handle those kind of temps?
