Does anyone have a gopro? If not I'm considering buying one but I recall nick saying something better. I'd like to shoot some ride footage and compile it into a short vid with some music. Why? Because I'm still 12.

I'm sure Hollywood has all the necessary software. ;)

I've heard good things about TBC but have never been. I hate riding my bike in the city though I almost always take my car. The problem with me drinking in the city is driving home cause I like beer just a little too much haha

Ok, I know i sound like a broken record when it comes to the river run but its the best ride i know of. I would like to get an idea of who would be interested and when they would be available. We can make the rally point my house to start. Everyone is more than welcome to hang out here for a bit and make sure everyones bike is good to go....You know minor stuff like chain lubes, adjustments etc. The ride starts in Morrisville and ends wherever but it only gets better the further we go. The route is 32 north to 611 all along the delaware. Its an amazing ride. We need to make sure we bring cameras and vid cams too. Afterwards, if everyone is up to it, we can come back to my house for beers, burgers, and bull#$%^.

I am thinking we should get an early start say meetup here around 10am (what can i say i make my own hours 10 is early to me :) ) the short version of the ride is up 32 north until it meets 611, Only an hour or so. The long version ends by the delaware water gap. 2 1/2 - 3 hour a$$ nummer but the ride is worth it. Im down either way. Let me know what you guys think and when your available.

Sunday is looking to be beautiful....but if its too short notice let me know when.

zilaniz
October 7th, 2011, 03:45 PM

October 7th, 2011, 04:13 PM
Jae, I got your txt. Awesome! I can't respond cause I get no service at all where we're staying. I musta run through some reception while we were out riding today and your pic showed up, but I didn't see it until I got back here and now I can't respond. Tell Mo I said congrats!

You guys will be glad to know the 250 is representing down here at the Dragon. Did a run or two on it yesterday. Today we hit up the Blue Ridge Parkway and some other local roads. We got really lucky. Late in the season, so there is very little traffic, but it's freakishly nice out. Got up to almost 80 today and it's totally clear.

i loved that bike. how much did u get for her? if u dont mind me asking.
the triumph is nice btw.

jstrain
November 2nd, 2011, 05:48 AM
I sold it to a friend of mine for $5,500. I probably could have gotten a bit more for it, but he gave me a great price a couple years ago on an older Aprilia that bought from him.

Looking through the Aprilia forum classifieds, people with similar bikes weren't getting much more than that, or if they were asking more, they were having a hard time getting it sold. I'm pretty impatient, so I figured a bit less money was worth it not to deal with the headache of tirekickers, folks who don't show up to see the bike, etc.

I thought about going down to the Pumpkin fest. I have a friend from NY who was part of the crew that was filming it for some documentary. Would have been cool to ride down and see him along with the festival, but I just couldn't free up enough time.

Did you guys ride yesterday? Jae txted me, but I didn't have a chance to get back to him. Was busy yesterday, but managed a short ride on some back roads out on the way to Lancaster.

You missed out Killa! It was gorgeous. Rode out to Gilbertsville with Tim (stink nugget) and Eddie (zx94life).

Tim, did Gil get home ok? Once we got on the road after he re-filled, it occurred to me that the gallon he put in the tank probably wouldn't be enough to get him all the way home on.

Sweet. Not sure how much group stuff will go down over winter, but we have a good little group. Pm me or stinknugget if you want to get in on last minute rides that don't make it into the thread.

Nothing to do with this board, but every Tuesday night at 7, there is a cool meetup for riders at the Abbeye bar. 2nd street and something. Girard or fairmount maybe. Fewer folks in winter, but it meets year round. I signed up for guitar lessons right at that time each week, but once it's nice out, I'm hoping to start heading in again after I'm done.

Haha nice. Well I'm a cold weather fanatic. Though I did go a bit overboard on a ride from Northern Maryland back to Philly. Three layers of gloves and I had to stop at Wawa 1.5 hours in because I couldn't feel anymore. At that point I gave in, and went for the gloves. I have a wool balaclava and I just wear some thermals inside, and that seems to do well for our 'warmer' weather. Warm in comparison to up North...lol

I attended the demo day as well. I came up from Baltimore since the Bowie, MD sunday was rained out. I did not ride up though, I drove. If the distance wasn't so great I would've ridden up (my excuse for not riding in sub 40* temps....)

etiainen, I saw your CBR in the parking lot when I got there.

I tested the Ninja 650 at 10:30 and the ZX-6R at 11:15 and had a great time. I was in an alpinestars jacket, leather pants, and a bell flying tiger helmet, if you're curious.

Yeah I made it out. I actually got there first.:)

I rode the 2012 ZX-6R and Ninja 650. Enjoyed them both, though the 650 felt weird with the handlebars so high.

On the second run the cops started showing up and cutting into the group to slow people down. Lol
People were also looking at my bike a lot, and checking out the new 250.:p Also, the 2012 Ninja 250 wasn't even there this year....:( I don't get why they don't bring their top selling bike to the rides.

Really? when was your second run? I didn't see a single cop on either run.

I actually felt perfectly at home on the 650. I loved every bit of that ride. The ZX-6R however, I felt so out of place on. It was a very fun ride, but getting used to the position on that one was odd to me. Is tarted to get used to it but that ride confirmed for me that super sports are not for me, at least to ride daily.

etiainen
May 1st, 2012, 08:34 AM
It was the 9:45 ride.

I'm not that tall so even though I can flat foot it the handlebars seem a bit to high for me. I did really like th MPG computer and other farkles. The plastic on the tank made my tankbag not stick on well.

I had to really grip that ZX-6R tank. It was extremely boring to ride below 50MPH. It has no character then. I also have confirmed supersports aren't for me when it comes to daily riding.

jstrain

How did they run the demo rides? Did you have to follow a lead rider, or did they just let you loose for a certain amount of time?

etiainen
May 1st, 2012, 08:37 AM
I was there last year as well.

There are a few escort riders, and one in the back. If they get cut-off they will ride to the front and lead the group. The speeds are quite dependent on those in front of you. If you have a super slow person on a ZX-10R in front of you that is afraid to take turns, then you get to sit there and wait for them to take their turns slowly.:p

The bars seemed just right for me on the 650, I'm 6' tall. While the ZX-6R made me feel like my head was way out over the front wheel hahah. I agree about the 6R, it only felt right above 50mph, below that, it felt oddly cumbersome.

How did they run the demo rides? Did you have to follow a lead rider, or did they just let you loose for a certain amount of time?

They had two groups, cruiser and sport groups with three leaders each, one in the front, middle and back. They led the group around for about 25 minutes or so on a predetermined course. They did mostly back roads and a bit of highway.

Any DMV location can probably test ugly, although I'd check with them over the phone first.

If your bike is sound and should be able to pass inspection with no issues, I would think anywhere you go should be the same cost (I'm guessing it's a standard fee as long as nothing needs fixing). A dealer somewhere might be most convenient.

The only one I know of around Philly is Manayunk Triumph.

I started w a 2010 ninja 250, great fun bike to learn and get comfortable on. Wanted the R6 or a ZX6R after that... bought a cbr600rr cuz it was riding season and i had no bike and got a good deal on it. for me the cbr is a great street bike, but i am def more into the race bike feel. the riding position is a little more upright on the cbr, the clip on bars have risers on them raising the bars above the triple, which i dont like. the stock rearsets are a bit more forward and lower too. i like to corner out of the seat and i was never really confortable doing it on the cbr, it seemed to take more work to get into a good cornering position. the r6 it just feels natural to me when i slide off the seat my knee locks into the tank and i can really hang off effortlessly.

the second big thing is the powerband. the cbr has good power that is even from cracking open the throttle all the way thru to redline... it def has an advantage at the start this way. the r6 starts a bit slow off the line, but when you hit 6500rpms the powerband kicks in and the bike just PULLS like a beast. the redline on the r6 is higher than the cbr also. on the track you only start once so the slow start doesnt really hurt the r6 too much esp when you can compensate as soon as you hit 2nd gear.

to me the r6 is a track/race bike that they threw some lights and signal on and called it street... the cbr is a good handling sporty street bike.

i havent ridden a zx6r yet, if i bought one it would have to be an 09 up after they revamped the model making it lighter, faster, and more competitive. they shortened the wheelbase on the 09 too giving it better cornering ability... plus the 09 ups come with alot of performance parts stock.

hope that helps... and this is just my opinion.
i have never ridden a gsxr as there is a stigma attached to them that its a squid bike... any noob who doesnt know squat but wants to look cool buys a "gixxer" and proceeds to ride it in his shorts, flip flops, tank top and no helmet... and usually drops it on for the first time on his way out of the dealership LOL

Thanks for the info, very helpful. One of the things I like in a bike is how far it makes you lean, I absolutely hate sitting straight up, like on my Ninja most of the time lol. Im a tall guy (6'1) but also very light at like 160lbs. I sat on a friend of mine's R1 at work and was amazed at how small they were. I really like the way they feel. I guess that I too am into the race bike feel, but I wasnt really aware that the CBR and R6 were such different styles. And id definitely prefer a stronger powerband in the higher RPMs than steady power throughout.

I still need to sit on a GSXR though. I agree too many noobs buy them and crash like idiots, but that happens with all bikes :P They are so sexy though...

Good to hear. Dang all the way to Canada? Quite the hike lol

It will be :D 4 or 5k miles at least over 3 weeks. Across northeast Canada, into Newfoundland, then nova scotia. I'll post up pics when I get back. Google the Trans Labrador highway to see where I'll be.

I can probably make Thursday night at cycle gear. Anybody else gonna make it?

Tim, get out of your basement and meet up!

Nice!

I took my CBR cross-country this past July. Did 6239 miles in 13 days and did the way back from Sacramento to Philly in 4 days, with an Iron Butt tossed in there.

Was quite the trip, and my friend rode passenger to LA then Sacramento.

Lol, I don't actually have any of the bikes listed in my profile anymore. They're all sold and I keep forgetting to update it.

I'll be riding an 07 KLR. There's a pretty large stretch (250 miles) of unpaved road, plus whatever else we decide to explore off the beaten path. The other person going with me is on a Suzuki DRZ 400.

That's some serious mileage. Don't think I'll get that high, although I may clock in higher than my estimate above once. That is just the main route we're following. I'm sure there will be some detours and other side routes thrown in.

I didn't get certified or anything, but I did 1k straight home from Florida in February on the KLR. All highway, which sucked!!!

So who is in for Thursday night at cycle gear? Sounds like Jae was gonna make it. It's more of a meet up and hang out thing, but we usually do a short ride afterwards.

Like Jae mentioned, cycle gear is on Baltimore Pike in Springfield. Just a fee miles off 95 and the Blue Route (I-476).
