at first look i'd concur wrong caps. let me confirm after inspecting newgen 250 and ex500 carbs in my possession.

a partsbook search shows 16005-1056 top cap used 88-12 all 250 CVK30
16005-1056 used on CVK34 ex500's, some vulcans and some 4 cyl applications

a comparo to 500 is called for. give me an hour or so. Need to try the 500 cap on a 250 body and confirm visual to your photo.
