I'd suggest using a genuine USPS Flat Rate Priority box in medium size (thicker of the 2 medium sizes they offer)....they are provided at
no charge by the postal service. Double plastic bag the carbset....then fully wrap in newspaper. Using their box then assures Flat Rate pricing, $16 with 3 day service, tracking # provided. Quite fair. They've never lost a set on me yet, coming or going back.
IF they somehow got lost, I've got replacement carbs I'd sell you for $200.
Leaving them "as is" upon removal is fine, dirt and all.
