You don't HAVE to, but it would be helpful as these bikes are lean from the factory. Since you will have a bit of budget let from your $50 after the slip on, perhaps a few shims on your carb needles will richen it up a bit for you along with other benefits.

Grand total for 4 shims (small washers)... $0.36
