Just got my R6
It's been abused as a trackbike and it has some problems. I believe 2nd gear has a broken tooth. Nevertheless, I got a 2005 R6 for $1500. It also has some aftermarket parts that I can sell to make up the cost of repairs.
I haven't sold my ninjette tho . I still plan on riding that in the wet season.

Nice find. I would buy that in a heartbeat, replace everything needed and you'll still make out with a great bike for ridiculously cheap

I already purchased the lights. Still need plastics. Blinkers, I'll probably get protons for the front and use my rear LED's on the back side.

The price. I've also always wanted an R6. The resale on the CBR600's are pretty high. I didn't really want a zx6. Nothing wrong with them, but I don't like the styling as much. If I end up selling the R6, I'll be getting the CBR. I had been watching a 4 sale thread for this bike and the seller dropped the price down to 1700. I then talked him down to 1500 and he got to keep his steering damper. Hard to beat that kind of price for an 05/ fuel injected supersport. I figured, even with fixing it up, I should still be under 3k. I'm also trying to sell some of the stuff it came with, so it should all work out pretty well. All 3 bikes have comparable performance, so it really is up to what you find and what you prefer in looks. The one thing I wish it had was the undertail exhaust that the cbr and late model zx6 have.
Thanks

Yeah if you put 1.5k into that bike ittl look/run like new. And you'll have an incredible R6 for 3k! Lucky lucky man.
I HIGHLY doubt after riding that R6 you're gonna want a CBR. I rode a CBR after an R6 and it felt like a Harley to me lol. But R6's are just my forte.. cant wait to get one in a few months |

Here's some pics. The last pic is the current state. I am working on making a plate that I can use my floor jack with to drop the motor/tranny out.

Thanks! I saw yours and it's beautiful . Congrats on yours as well!
Thanks Steve! I just got done making my own transmission adapter plate that will fit onto my floor jack. I love tig welding . Waiting for my supplement manual on CD to get shipped. Next up is to drain the oil, pull the clutch out, remove the chain, sprockets, and I'll likely pull the wheels off too.

Got to pull the motor this weekend! My little brother was a big help. I welded up my own transmission adapter plate. I didn't want to pay $200 for a decent tranny jack. I bought 1/4" plate, drilled a big hole in the center, then TIG welded some support steel. Coated with plastidip. It worked out great.
This lil bugger is the reason I pulled the motor. I was told by the PO that while in 2nd, there was a clattering sound.

Thanks Chris! I'm having a good time so far. I just placed an order for the oem gaskets I'll need. I want to have the gaskets ready so I can put it all back together ASAP. I have a good transmission out of an 06 on my shelf.

Awesome stuff Tri! Congrats!
idk if you have seen any of my recent posts, but after my "accident" on my 250 i bought an 07 cbr600rr and just was never comfortable on it. i sold it last month and bought a beautiful 06 R6 anniversary edition. it had some banged up plastics but i got it for $4400 w only 7k miles on it and the wheels were already powder coated which was a plus. i sold my cbr for 5k and used the difference to replace the plastics that were scrateched and get a couple other small mods. i gotta second the feeling that you will not want a cbr after the R6. maybe u will, but for me i had to really do some work it felt like to get comfortable hanging off the bike into turns... the R6 when i rode it just felt natural getting my butt off the seat and leaning into turns... also the power of the R6 blows the cbr away. the cbr seemed to have a smooth powerband from cracking the throttle all the way thru with no real oomph. the R6, when you hit 6500 rpm the powerband kicks in and it just pulls. which r6 forum are you on? im on r6-forum.com as RoninR6 so when you gonna bust out the custom yamaha R6 stickers????

Thanks for you insight Jae! I look forward to getting her road worthy soon. I'm still ordering parts that was removed when it was converted. I'm on that forum as Revelations. The other r6 forums don't seem to have as much traffic.
I doubt I'll be doing anything for the R6 to sell there since they charge $49/month for vendors.

Glad you kept the ninjette, and still hanging out here, Tri. We love having you around.
Looks like an awesome project bike, and the price was amazing. Going to be a fantastic bike, and a great way to fall in love with something is really digging into it like you are doing. Makes me want to buy a new bike.

Thanks Floyd . I'm on the R6 forums to find info and look for parts, but the community over there isn't like it is here. It seems unless you've been around there for years, no one wants to talk to you.

I think it's hilarious that the longest running thread in the intro forum is from a girl that doesn't ride. She's an umbrella girl. Guess you have to be a model to get some sort of interaction. [on R-6forum.com]
