Newbie (soon to be rider) from VA/NC

Hi all!

I'm Andrea (Andi) and I'm just starting to get into motorcycles. I've been terrified of them since I was little but I've warmed up to them in the past few years. I'm going to take the MSF Rider's Edge course this upcoming October and will be in the market for a ninja soon after I'm a college junior and a Graphic Communication major.

And, I'd like to thank the user Yasko, and gfloyd2002, and warlord... and all who contributed to this thread

http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=65659

... because that's what got me on here

Soooo.. Thanks! haha I'm going to browse now...

Awesome! Thanks for the welcomes everyone
I'm currently in Murfreesboro, NC. I go to Chowan University. I'm originally from Norfolk, VA haha

I'm a little nervous about learning to ride but my boyfriend has been riding for 6 years so I'm pretty sure he won't let me screw up too bad haha. He's a safety addict so I'm fairly certain he won't let me do anything that could really injure me, especially after his accident last year (not his fault... something about altimas, those cars are just dangerous). ooh, and he rides a Burgman 400

Let me know if you ever come back towards home. I live about an hour south of the Norfolk area, and have a bunch of riding friends up there who are always down for a ride!

Again, Welcome!

Awesome! too cool! People near me! haha

Drac: I know where Gaston is My friend's folks have a lakehouse there and a family I babysit for also have a house on Lake Gaston! From my understanding I'll be learning on a 500 buell blast. My boyfriend said that if I do well on that then I can test drive a 650 and see how I feel about it. I've still got plenty of time to do more research though

Gadgetguy: Awesome! I'll be home for the summer but won't be able to ride until October at the earliest. I still have to get my endorsement! haha I got my helmet and jacket this week... I was so excited... I had to show one of my professors then I ran around my building in my gear... perhaps not the smartest thing to do, but I didn't run into anything! haha

cmlilley: Really?! One of my GC girls, Emily, lives in Ahoskie! You're super close! haha

Your boyfriend has you down the right track! For a second there I thought you were this girl I met at VIR who took her 250 to the track (she and her boyfriend went to VTech). She was the only other 250 out there, and one of 3 girls riding. Her boyfriend rode an R6 and had been going to the track for 6 years. Needless to say, whatever you choose, enjoy it! For all you know, you may consider the Buell Blast as a bike to buy (for several reasons!) after you ride it for the MSF (I assume at Harley Davidson dealer?).

And funny story -- I'm planning to move to Newport News this summer.

Yep! I'll be taking the rider's edge course at the HD in Fairfax, VA. My aunt lives 20 minutes away from it and she's been asking me to come visit her haha and I pre-welcome you to the 757! Careful out there, drivers are scary.. there's a reason I drive a steel bodied pickup truck! My cousin went to Tech haha but I've never been there. Wouldn't surprise me if it's someone I know though!! I might have to get my boyfriend to take me to the track. He needs to put miles on his bike anyways haha

Not to stray you away from Kawi and the fun bikes, but you may also consider an Suzuki SV650n or SV650s. I've seen a number of them pop up for sale in our areas, and it's a very similar bike to the Ninja 250R. And thanks for the heads-up! I'll be lugging my 250 in an E150 with me. I just hope I can find a remotely cheap place with a garage.

And definitely go to the track, even if just to watch! The Chump Car series has an event at VIR (Danville/Alton, VA) this next weekend!
