Bike won't start need some advice!

Hey everybody! I'll quickly update you guys on the history of the bike.
A buddy of mine has a 2000 zzr250 that he bought a few weeks ago.
The previous owner told us he put a new battery in it.
This is my friends first bike and he has been practising rolling down hills in neutral with the key turned on so all lights are on.
He has been doing this quite a bit and also practising clutch control so releasing the clutch out in 1st slowly and holding it at the point where the bike moves and he walks with it (engine on).
After about a week of this, today after riding for about 40minutes he tried starting the bike and it wouldnt turn over anymore.
We can hear a sound from the starter going "errrrrr" when we push the start button then it dies.
The horn and lights were working at first but now after doing that a few times the horn won't work anymore.
We're pretty sure its the battery but we don't want to charge it without blowing all the wiring.
I have a car battery charger like a trickle charger that has three options of charging.
1. 6V/6A 2. 12V/2A 3. 12V/6A. Which one would we need to use on the battery so we don't ruin anything?
Would it be safer to go buy a real trickle charger meant for a motorcycle or a new battery?
Any other opinions on the issue and other solutions we could do?
Thanks a lot for all the help guys! Sorry if this is somewhere on the forums and has already been answered!

12/2 or 12/6 either will work. If you have one of the nicer chargers it will switch to 12/2 when the battery is fully charged. When in doubt.... pull it out! hahahahahaha

I mean the battery.....

Ahaha thanks for the help csmith12!
We'll try it out right now. How long should we keep the battery connected?

It will charge faster on 12/6 of course. Should be fully charged in 8-12 hours or less if there is some charge in the battery at the start.

And yea.... bikes can run poorly or not at all with a weak battery.

Hey guys have an update on the situation.
Tried charging the battery at 12/6 for roughly 8hours.
Upon checking after the charge, the bike literally has no power now.
No ignition lights or headlight. As far as we understand the battery reads fully charged.
Any other ideas what it could be and solutions or should we just bring it into the dealer?
Thanks for the help guys!

Check the main fuse and your battery connections on the terminals.

Also check the load across the battery when you hit the starter. There might be a shorted cell in the battery, which would cause it to read ok at rest but severely drop voltage under load.

Got it started again! Thanks so much for the help guys!
My buddy and I are idiots and never connected the positive terminal.
We just put the screw back in and put the red plastic over it.

I think it's under the seat behind the battery but I'm not 100% sure. I think you can trace the cable from the battery's positive lead and it should go to the main fuse. It might be the one that's part of the starter relay.

...

Ok, after looking through a bunch of pictures I think it's on the right side of the bike under the side panel by the rear brake reservoir.
