Hello from Penang, Malaysia
Hi,
Just recently picked up and started riding a 2012 ex250 fi with 3500kms on the clock. Having great fun as I haven't really ridden a bike for 25yrs. Had to replace the brand new looking tyres as they were the originals with a date stamp of June 2012 Obviously changed the oil and filter straight away and the air filter which had literally turned to oily dust (2hrs to clean the air box). Also completely changed the front and rear brake fluid. I'm guessing the bike has probably had 1 service in its first year of existence, and never been serviced since. Fork seals are leaking, so new ones are on order and I'll get the fork oil completely changed when they are fitted. Anything else I should be considering doing to this low milage but unserviced bike before I put too many miles on it? Thanks! |

Hello Kevin, welcome to the board!
You sound like you're good at doing mechanical stuff, so I'm sure you'll take a good look at everything. What is the condition of the chain and sprockets, for example? |

Thanks for the welcomes...
To answer Jim's question, chain was dry. Very dry. I've lubed it and it seems to look OK and the sockets look OK too, thankfully. |

He was a nice guy though, and he included a new chain and sprocket set with the bike. |

I would also replace the antifreeze, and while you are in it replace all the orings except the one in the head as you need to take the cover off. St 8 years you are might be ok for a bit wbut soon it might start leaking. I do not trust orings that are that old. They are cheap and easily accessible save for that one in the head
Not sure about 2012 my 2007 has the PCV hose connecting the case with the air box. That gets hard overtime and might lead to air leaks. Its easy to access and I would replace that too |
