Noob Question About Front Brake Lights
Hey guys,
I purchased my first bike ('08 Ninja 250) at the start of this year which I bought for dirt cheap. I'm the 5th owner and seems like it's been neglected for a long period of time. Simple tasks like chain cleaning and adjustment were never done, and the bike in general is just in pretty bad condition. The bike is in way better shape now than when I bought it. There are just a few more jobs to perform before everything is in working order. The problem: I need to replace the entire brake caliper and front master cylinder assembly. I'm quite confused on how the front brake lights are connected to the front master cylinder. Is it just a wire running from the brake switch underneath the master cylinder? I'd like to know this information before I commit to dismantling my front brakes and encounter a blank wall as my bike is my only form of transport and would prefer to do this job in 1 day. Your help is much appreciated! |

It's actually two small wires, one to each terminal of the little switch on the master cylinder. It's shown in the motorcycle's wiring diagram in case you forget.

Even painted to look pretty again. On what basis are you condemning them to the junkpile?

The pistons on the brake caliper wont push back despite using a piston rewind tool. The caliper itself is probably rebuildable to working order as you said, but I found one online from a Ninja with only 1,000 miles on the clock. I figure it would just save me a lot of hassle with a neglected one if I just purchased an entirely new caliper. |

Need to use JIS screwdriver tip instead of philips, probably too late now. Using hammer impact driver will often remove these screws . https://www.harborfreight.com/impact...ase-37530.html Worse case, use 4mm bit to drill out just heads of screw. Pop off cap and remove stubs of screws with pliers. Then replace screws with new ones using anti-seize. All above procedures are still quicker and less effort than replacing master-cylinder. Bleeding from scratch with empty cylinder and line is pain. I suggest tying caliper up so bleed-screw is higher than MC. |
