GoPro Rip off Vivtar DVR Action cam 39.98

Has anyone gotten this camera!!
it is a fraction of the cost of my go pro but seems like a perfect accessory camera to get the other views and I don't have to be as protective of it since its not my beloved go pro!

I like my Hero3, but that Vivitar could be used for shots too dangerous for the good camera.

The reviews are not too good, but for that price and from Wal Mart, it is definitely worth a shot. It can easily be returned if it stinks. I think I just might give it a shot.

Dude...good find. It's got a lot of terrible reviews, but unless you're looking to make a Hollywood movie, what does it matter? For my purposes, it'll work fine. I got a black one though, the other 3 looked kinda silly IMO :/

I have used this cam before. Stay clear unless you don't care about the quality of the vid. The screen on the back for aiming and review is nice though. I have some track video floating around if you wanna see it.

Yeah, that's a good enough cam for throwing around. Don't expect a good quality video or any impressive battery life, though.

If you don't want to shell out the $399 for a high end GoPro there's a Sony action cam for $168 or a Contour ROAM 2 for $199 which both get the job done.

I don't recommend Drift Innovation cameras because even though battery life is better than GoPro, their their priced the same as go pro but the video quality is sub par and that's the main thing that's important for any video camera is the quality. I tried their top model (Ghost-S) and compared it to a GoPro Black 3+. It's crazy how much better the GoPro is.

CSmith12 Thanks for the video. I know this is a post about a type of video camera but your track video really made my day. I have not been able to ride my bike for over 5 weeks now and your vid just made me smile and remember why I love to ride

I think the Sony action cam is pretty good and best bang for buck on a action camera. I got one for Christmas and it's not the most or least expensive camera out there but a lot of reviews on youtube compare it with the Go Pro and others and it does very well in many scenarios.

There are many kinds of gopros. That vid was taken with this one, NOTE the wide angle lens.

So in case anyone cares; the Vivitar actually records some pretty good quality video (see attached photo for screenshot). Buuuuut it records an AVI file that is coded some funky way that wasn't readable by Final Cut Pro (not sure about other software). So in order to edit down video, you need to convert it and that kind of diminishes some of the quality. Audio is also pretty bad, but I don't plan on using it because I have another camera setup. Here's a short video I took on the way to the gym. Is it worth $40? I'll let you decide.
