picked up some new rubbers.

i took every ones advice and got the pirelli sport demons.
so today i got all new rubbers on. i had the back one on for about 4 days and just go the front one done.
it definitely was worth the money. the bike feels much better and handles much better then it did with the stock tires on. cant wait to take then to the canyons. =]

If you dont mind me asking, how much did it run you? Trynna put together the budget. Since the Baby Moms got pregnant, I figured I'd never be buying rubbers again

They're great tires -- I'm running a Sport Demon front and a Rosso II rear (left over from the track last summer) and they're great

That would be awesome lol but I won't be buying them for another month or 2 most likely. Rent and what not has to come before the toys. Thanks though

congratulations I just put a brand new set of sport demons on my '99 which had 7-year-old tires and as I rode it home from my friend's shop (I got them for $210 plus $60 for mount/balance for the pair) I had to stop on the side of the road, get off, step back and look at my bike to make sure it was the same one because it felt AMAZING. no but I'm no longer scared to turn. they are great so far, I haven't gotten a chance to ride in rain but I'm hoping they feel a lot less like ice skates than my old tires. which felt like ice skates at 20mph on a 90 degree dry day.

you where one to talk me into these bad boys. i know what you mean tho. feels more solid and handles better to a point that it doesnt feel like the same bike. and with my stiffer 300 spring everything feel 100 times better then stock. i was afraid to lean to deep as well with the original factory tires, but on the few turns on my way home from work it felt awesome on these new ones.

tires are your lifeline, they're the most important motorcycle part you can possibly upgrade/replace.

I feel like this was a poorly chosen thread title...

On topic though, new tires are always exciting

Just got those tires not too long ago. Demons are pretty nice, after putting about 200 miles of course. I was originally gonna buy a set of BT-003, however, I decided to pick the Demons for tire life and oem size.

no, that's why the new rubbers were needed in the first place.

You paid $100 to have them mounted and balanced? Did they at least give you a reach around while they had you bent over?

sad thing is yes, but the other option was 90 bucks per a tire at another shop close by.

You should've gone to harbor freight. They sell the same tool that the shops use to mount tires for $50 and that's a one time cost.

$40 to $50 per motorcycle tire for professional mounting and balancing is about rignt. The HF tire changing tool with motorcycle wheel adaptor runs, what, about a hundred and a quarter? Then you'll want another $100+ worth of mount/demount bars and balancing stuff.

Whether or not it's worth it depends on how many tires you plan on changing. And how often.

Except that a lot of shops won't have an actual mechanic doing the mounting/balancing. You'll end up with the lot gopher or the service writer doing it, and possibly scratching your rims. That is what led me to learn how to do it myself.

I spent about $50 total on some tire irons and rim protectors. It isn't as hard as some think it is. It doesn't require more than that. Using a machine like a harbor freight or no-mar makes it much easier, but isn't required by any means.

I think I might just make a base similar to those two and get a mojo lever (popular for guys with the harbor freight setup, along with the blocks). That would be around $130. Would only take a few changes to pay for itself. My irons have paid for themselves about half a dozen times over already.

Yeah. Friends and I have the Harbor Freight tire changer with motorcycle wheel adaptor and Mojo blocks, No-Mar mount-demount bar, No-Mar Spoonbars, Mojo lever, Beemer Balancer, Quickie Kit (from Beemer Balancer), No-Mar cone set ("cone pack 6"), and NAPA tire splooge. Keep all the stuff in my attic. Done a bunch of tires.

Haven’t been skunked by a bike tire yet!

But if you don’t have access to tire changing stuff or desire to do it, it’s OK to pay someone to do it.
