Where does this hose connect to?

While I was removing my carbs from my 2007 pregen, a small diameter rubber hose about 8" long dropped on the ground right below my engine area.

It was plugged with a black hard plastic plug at one end and the hose was full of oil! I had just removed my carbs from the bike and had taken off the large crankcase breather rubber tube that goes to the air box.

What does this little hose do and where did it connect to? I looked around, but I couldn't find where it had been connected to.

Any ideas?

I had just removed the old stock air box also, but I couldn't see a fitting for this small of a hose.

Just to understand, I'm not talking a about the large "dog legged" crankcase breather piece.

This is a smaller hose, like a vacuum hose, but it had oil inside of it and it was plugged with a black hard plastic piece at one end.

Air box drain. Oil is OK. It fits on a small nipple on the underside of the air box. Supposed to be drained and emptied every so often.

Oh thank you!

I assume that the little bit of oil in the air box would have come from the large crankcase vent connection to the airbox, right?

By the way, there wasn't any oil inside the bottom of the airbox, only just a oil film in the bottom.

Thank you again!

Either crank breather or the foam filter element itself. It's supposed to be oiled.

Welcome!

No need for an apology. Search is finicky and if the wrong term is used, you won't get the results you need.

We're here to answer questions!

You guys are great! I just love this place.

I hope you realize how much you help people.

Especially old farts like me trying to fix their bikes themselves instead of paying others to do it. I now refuse to pay some idiot to fix what I want to learn to fix myself. Very rewarding.

I bought this old 2007 Ninja 250 to ride, but mostly to learn how it works now that I'm retired.

Thanks for your help my friend.

One nice thing about trying to help/helping older folks: They listen to those that know more about a particular subject and don't argue.

Some days I get tired of trying to help people that don't know what they're doing, ask for help and then tell you you're wrong because they "heard it from a buddy".

Breath of fresh air I tell ya!!

Yep, saw that too.

Although, you might have an interesting time tuning for the pod setup. CV carbs like an airbox. Not saying it can't be done but it's not for the faint of heart (or those that are allergic to carb removals for jetting and tuning.)

If you want to set it and forget it, just leave the airbox on.

If you don't mind tinkering, the pods are for you. I'd recommend a prefilter wrap for it if you ride in the rain, though. Water will get through the K&N without it.

Good advice.

Not "faint of heart" yet.

I changed to the pods because I want to tinker with the carbs. Carburetors have always been something that scared me. I want to get comfortable removing, adjusting and jetting carbs and not being afraid to make a mistake.

I couldn't handle trying to deal with that damn airbox every time I went to change a setting or change a jet.

Anyway, take care my friend and I'm sure that I will be "picking your brains" even more in the future.

Peace

P.S. I live in the desert and don't ride in the rain. Too scary for me.

HAHAH!

Most welcome!

Have fun. Ask questions. Enjoy your retirement!

I raced in the rain this last weekend....it's not so bad.
