Okay, newb question... why was the one guy riding the green ninja stickin' his foot down prior to leaning into a corner, saw him do it from time to time and was curious what the point of it was.

My guess he's trying to get a feel for where the pavement is...not sure. This was started by Rossi and adapted by other riders in Moto GP. I've heard those guys do it to help them steady their bikes when braking from such high speed which wouldn't really apply in this case.
