Ninja 250 sat for a long time
Hi guys, this is my first post here and I'm excited to say I will be buying my first motorcycle soon. I have ridden dirt bikes for a good part of my life, but now I want to buy a street bike and decided a ninja 250 is a good place to start.
This guy has an ad on Craigslist, it is a 2010 ninja 250 with 72 miles on it. He says it "had been sitting for a while". I don't know exactly how long that is exactly but I will be asking him soon. He said the battery didn't work but he just replaced it and he just drove it 5 miles from one garage to another. My question is what kind of damage if any could be caused by leaving a ninja 250 sit for a period of time like that? Is it something that could cause permanent damage? And is this something I should be interested in or steer clear from? Thank you in advance for any help! |

I personally don't think you should be too worried about a 2010. Your going to want to change all fluids and break it in properly but there have been bikes sitting far longer and in worse shape that have been bought back from the brink. Carbs may be a little gunked up if it has been sitting with gas in the float bowls. Fresh gas and a little sea foam might help.
This is just my opinion, see what the others have to say.

Carbs need cleaning, possibly rust in gas tank. Lines may need to be replaced. Tires probably need to be replaced.
How much does he want?

Sounds like a great find, personally after sitting that long I agree with the above statements, all fluids need to be changed, dump the gas, carburetors cleaned, replace tires, check brakes, etc.....
Offer $2k and see what happens, most likely you guys will meet in the middle at $2,250.
