Newb bought 2002 ex250, wont start need help
So I got 10+ years working on mopeds so I'm not all that inept, but I can't get this thing to work.
So for a 2002 this bike looks perfect.. It was has safety check from 2015 so it was in working condition a year ago. But I start doing my checks slowly going through like a doctor and a patient.. Fuel to carbs, Spark Fires, ( changed plug ), checked fluids ( didn't do oil change yet ).. Could not get the bike to work so I shoot starter fluid into the bike and it lights right up. OKAY! So I pull the carbs, do a complete cleaning, ( I noticed someone had previously opened the air screws so i set them to 2.5 back from tight ) after cleaning out everything I put it all back together and same thing.. Starts are with starter fluid but wont run. Any ideas would be appreciated. None of the shops in my area have time to deal with me. Quite literally that's what I have been told and I payed $450 for the bike so I don't feel like paying someone $1000 to fix this thing. Plus I used to ride a fzr600 and I hate all the shops... they all make mistakes, and almost mess stuff up more than when I bring stuff in in. So anyone in Hawaii got a reasonable mechanic can help me out please let me know. |

When you cleaned the carburetors, did you remove all jets, holders, idle mixture screws, and make sure they are all clean and clear, and test all fuel circuits are clear with an air compressor? Did you verify the float height? Check the petcock for proper operation?

As Ghostt noted - there are many small but important steps to take when cleaning the carbs to make sure all the passages and jets are absolutely clear.
These sections cover cleaning and basic adjustments - http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/Cleaning_the_carbs_1 http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/Cleaning_the_carbs_2 Check that you are getting gas to the floatbowls by opening the drain screws. If you don't have fuel you need to look into why the petcock isn't flowing. |

Welcome Kyle!
Along with the links above, there is a great thread here about all the little holes in the carbs titled "secret passages". Searching for that should help with a more in depth carb clean as well. As I am sure you know, if it will run on spray, it's some sort of fuel delivery problem in the petcock, inline filter (if installed), carbs or vacuum. Good luck and hope it's something simple and easy.

First a few questions, Do you have pod filters or an aftermarket exhaust? And Second, are you sure that you cleaned the fuel enrichment circuit correctly?

Having been through this with a couple of ninjettes I wish you luck. The people above are pointing you in the right direction.
One of my bikes I had to remove the carbs and "clean" them 3 times before I got it right. |
