Another Highway speed thread worded as a tech question
I just started riding my 09 250 more regularly. I have logged about 15 thousand miles on my pregen, but am just getting the feel for the 09. It has a full yoshi exhaust and 990 filter setup. It has been jetted(but not necessarily right).
I know at highway speed, the 250 is wound up around the 9500 mark. On my 04, the throttle response was amazing at that speed, passing someone took nothing. On my 09, it takes me approximately 6 seconds to go from 75-85 mph. It seems to run strong through the whole power band until i get to those speeds. This does seem a bit sluggish right? I wondered if the jetting was wrong maybe, but at those rpms a little slower, it feels strong. Id love to hear what some peoples thoughts are on this. Thanks!! |

I own both bikes, sounds about right to me. The pregen is just stronger in that rpm range, differences in the motor. If you want a stronger pull, your gunna have to change gearing... tire size can also make the difference for the very, very sensitive rider. But gearing is less of a commitment and cheaper for the rider that is experimenting.

so you would say that 6 seconds to change that 5 mph is about right? I guess i figured with the aftermarket parts, i would be closer to the response of my 04

Basically yea,
Running both my 92 250 and my 2010 in the same rpm ranges and feeling for power... the 92 feels like it has more to give up top, but the 2010 has more to give on corner exit. Many bikes feel like this between generations and brands. After all, your dealing with 30 or less HP here. I feel similar stuff with my 06 and 08 r6's, the power comes on at different rpm points.

Also, if you feel the jetting is off and you can't get it "perfect", a trip to the dyno may be in order to get it sorted.

Have you tried downshifting for passing on the new-gen? That engine should be delivering maximum torque around 9,750 rpm. In that range of rpm's, the bike should be accelerating at a rate of 2.47 m/s^2. Your bike is currently accelerating at a rate of 0.74 m/s^2.

downshifting does help of course, but as i should be putting out max power in that area, im not sure i should need to. Its nice to get a feel for what other guys are thinking. I have not yet played with the jets yet because it seems to run so well in town. according to motofool, i should be about 3 times as fast in that range as i am.

Also coming from an 06 Pregen, so please correct me if I'm misunderstanding. I'm also use to WOT in 6th giving me a nice bit of passing speed and distance on the highway. |
