Welcome to MOPED MAYHEM!!!
Hey guys before you start reading I should point out that all this stuff happened in September and that until now I've been to lazy to post it on the site!
By "this stuff", I mean the Alford Motorycle Convention that takes place once a year in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Anywayz I'll skip the details regarding the usual hot dog stands, rows of classic bikes etc, usually associated with a bike convention and cut staright to the best bit... the Moped Mayhem! For those who don't know what this is, it's basically just a race on mopeds around a very narrow circuit with the rules being.. there are no rules, other than each moped must be accompanied by a team of 2-4 riders who must all get a go during a round. As long as you chosen steed is 50cc, was road legal once upon a time and has some form of slowing down your free to do whatever it takes to win! 2011 was not only my first time doing it, but my first race of any kind too. And given that the person I was replacing, broke her ribs after being T-boned, I was a little nervous, however my competitive side soon took care this! The event consists of 2 rounds each having a Le'Man style start with the goal to complete as many laps as you can in 30mins (I think). The circuit is a mixture of gravel jumps, tarmac, grass and also a very muddy infield course in Round 2. I was in my clubs team "The Greased Weasels" and would be sharing the bike with 2 other riders. The bike itself being a tuned Honda MT5. We had so much fun that I'm not even sure what the score was, 12th out of 32 teams I think? I really enjoyed myself and believe it or not was one of the fastest on track although I completely lost it on the muddy section! I'm the one in the red boiler suit and don't worry I was wearing a lot of armour underneath! These are just a handful of photos as there were about 300 taken!

Looks like a lot of fun!! I really want a 50cc scooter for playing around on and doing crazy things with it.

Yeah it's really popular and there's no limit to the amount of mopeds, as long as they all fit on the track somehow lol!
We're hoping to field a second team this year, I'm already looking for an old moped. I would definitely suggest a scrambler style bike and not a scooter, they got bullied bad! hehe |
