newb in cali
what's up?
new ninjette owner here. been riding for longer than i care to admit, on many different bikes. this is my first little ninja, and its a blast. i scored a 1990 Ninja 250R on craigslist for the paltry sum of $260.00. all black, with silver graphics. the tank and upper fairing have been repainted, but it is an extremely acceptable job. i cleaned the carbs, changed oil, filter, plugs, and threw on a new chain and sprocket set. i put on all new hoses on the carbs, had them synched, and had the valves adjusted. changed the fork oil, added a few washers for a bit of preload, and am waiting to get an EX500 rear shock to complete the package. i'm in for around eight hundred, including a personalized plate (2FIDDY R). i was planning on flipping it, but since i ride like an idiot, a 250 sounds pretty good for a commute bike. i can split lanes, save fuel, and not worry about my penchant for wheelies. i took it for a group ride last weekend, and it did very well. i'll need to drop some new tires on it (i currently have the stock, 20 year old tires on there!!) before i really try to flog it, but it went around corners when i asked it to, which is all i really want. all in all, a nice new toy. |

thanks, all!
definitely a good project at a great price. a few more bits and pieces, and then i'll be done. getting further and further away from selling it, though. seems the clutch is a worse than i realized. it slipped quite a bit when i got it, so i threw some washers in there. didn't cure things, but it bought me some time. |

who's banned? oh, you mean my tagline. just a pre-emptive statement, lol.
but seriously, it would be relatively easy to get booted with one or two posts. |

LOL... you can change your user title under UserCP > Edit Profile Options > then Optional Information (Custom User Title).
I thought he had been banned too and I was thinking how do I search for the drama?! |

lol.
i think ima lay low on this forum. just use it for info, not **** stirring. speaking of that, i need to figure outmy wiring. i broke my key off in the gas cap, and scored a new gas cap and ignition off of a 636. the everything lights up, but the starter button doesn't work. i'll have to trace wires, and swap something somewhere. or maybe just throw a toggle in there. |

not if i want it to be a hidden kill switch.
i'm not replacing the stock starter button, i'm adding a switch in the circuit. this is all speculative, anyway. i'll have the bike stripped down this weekend, when the roomies are away. they're of a different mind set when it comes to tidy work areas, so it'll be nice having the garage clean and empty. and since i rode it in today sans fairing (i forced the stock ignition with a screwdriver...so sue me), i'm thinking about finding a small headlight for it, and tart it up in the streetfighter guise. albeit a flyweight division fighter.... a friend has a keyed set from a parts bike with my name on 'em, so it might be a moot point in a week or so, when he strips that bike down. |
