Broken rod and crankshaft

So yeah, ended up with a broken rod and crankshaft, which in turn jammed the pistons into the head. compression was raised by removal of headgasket which caused the piston to strike the head after the rod broke. Considering a new motor, since i only paid 400$ for the bike complete, i dont mind dropping another 5-600 in it. I enjoy the ex250, its already half way to a cafe racer which i dig, but i dont really want a bigger bike, (id kill myself) so im looking for options. what are some ideas for you guys, im looking on ebay and see mostly 07-12 motors, the pregen motors seem to be more expensive for some reason. do you know if the newgen will fit pregen, maybe slight mods. i can handle, full frame work i cant. im just trying to see what my options are here. or if anyone knows a good place to find a good used pregen motor. or if another motor will fit what it would be. ive removed the motor already obviously and seen how small the motor mounts are, dont feel comfortable going much bigger than 250. maybe a 300 motor but nothing bigger. any ideas? help? websites? much appreciated

i heard the only mounting difference between pregen and newgen motors is the front mounts/radiator supports. you need the mounts to go with the motor but both mounts have the same frame mounting i think.

by front mounts do you mean the 2 arms that connect right under the gas tank that hold the coils on? right side has the top part of the radiator hose and cap as well? are they the same on the top of the frame newgen -> pregen or does it need new plates welded or holes drilled

im looking at the brackets right now, they look almost identical if they will hold my coils as well, ive been thinking about relocating the coils anyways so if the newgen brackets cant fit them im sure i can find a sweet little place to put it.
