Question Rear tire rub.. Help please

I bought this bike used n never noticed the rear tire rubbing until I started riding it. It's actually rubbed a hole a couple inches wide n a few inches long.. I know I need to raise it up a little but should I get a tire hugger or undertake kit. I will post pics when I get my wife off the laptop. My iPad won't let me upload pics. Also my chain seems way too tight. Any ideas how to loosen it? Please help.

I'm a Newb I know.

You have the manual?

It says how to tighten and loosen your chain. If you are rubbing then yeah you are probably rubbing when you go over a bump. Its probably lowered to low.

First thing's first, welcome to the forum go say hi in the new member section so we can get a chance to say hi and get to know you and your bike a little bit.

Next, what exactly is rubbing what? the tire is rubbing where...? Too many pronouns make things hard to understand for someone who cannot see the exact situation that is happening.

When you get the chance on something besides your iPad, upload some pictures; they would be helpful here.

http://photobucket.com/albums/t376/codykirkpatrick12 this is the only way I can do it from the iPad . We've already tried adjust the spring the way it shows. It loosens until we tighten the axel nut.

looks like the bike is lowered like massacremasses suggested. I think the only way to stop that rub is to raise the rear of the bike.

I'm not exactly sure how to do it with the RT lowering kit that's on it. And how much I really should raise it. As for replacing the damaged part. I just want a simple under tail, since I have the integrated taillight. Any suggestions?

find some way to support the back end of the bike without using a swing-arm stand.

As for undertails, I don't have any experience with those just don't go buying a replacement until you can confirm that your rear tire doesn't rub. IE don't replace the tail until you raise the rear and are sure this won't happen again.

Yeah no doubt. As for now I'm putting chafe pad over the wires to prevent one major damage to wiring. I'm an airplane avionics technician so I have some wiring and mechanic background. But motorcycles are all new to me.

I embedded all the pictures for you.

So yeah basically you are dropped to low. You need to raise it some. Unfortunately I believe that is one big piece on the bottom there and the whole thing will need to be replaced :/

I really like that, but I don't need the turn signals . I'm thinking about going with the stock replacement and getting a tire hugger. Either CF or all black.

Go over to Fun Products (by Sam's Club) and get Steve in parts to order you some stock links. They're like $27 apiece and the rear fender $85. You can do both yourself, but you will definitely have to support the bike with no weight on the rear. You may be able to to go to SJAFB auto hobby shop ( if they still have it ) for a little assist.

If you do stay with the RT links, don't put them more than a 1.5" drop, or it risks that rubbing that you're seeing with the lower drop. Even then, stiffen up the preload a click or two to be on the safe side with a lowered bike.

And.... stop riding the bike until you get things fixed. Your just further damaging the bike and endangering yourself and others.

Welcome and ride safe.

What hole should I use for that? (that's also what she said)

^ well if you have to ask, you're doing it wrong

I believe the closest one is the same as stock height.

So you can set it to that briefly to measure the height of the back end, and then adjust the back down one hole at a time until you get the drop that you need, that is still less drop than 1.5" like Alex suggested.

The stock links are about 7" bolt center to bolt center. You can start there on the RT links to find the height you want.
