Video for new(er) riders
Found this video from two years ago on another forum and noticed it was posted here by the Ninjette Newsbot, but no one really pays attention to that and it will get more attention here. II think this video is great for people wanting to get into riding and also for those who are still new. You don't have to watch the whole video, but there's a few good sections to watch. It is also made by famous riders such as Keith Code, Jeremy McGrath and others.
Background of the video: In short, the video was made for military members by the Department of Defense for those who were new to riding but wanted fast bikes. A lot of military personnel were coming back home, getting a motorcycle then wrecking it and becoming seriously hurt or killed. Breakdown of the video: 5:35 Powerful streetbikes (aka gsxr600+) vs the inexperienced rider. 6:40 Dirtbikes. 10:30 Riding sand dunes before progressing to MX. (also some cool slow-mo footage) 17:25 Enduro/Trail riding. 19:50 Learning how to ride by using a dual-sport bike. 22:00 Keith Code recommends learning on a DS instead of sportbike and/or training courses. 22:43 Words to live by for newbies. ***Really pay attention to this part*** 23:07 Quick clip of where "But I'll only ride within my limits until I get experience" kills one or more people. 27:50 Gear. Dressing for the crash, not the ride. 'Nuff said. 30:26 "Teach" lowsides ON PURPOSE at 40mph to show what gear does. Points out spots on the gear that ripped, scraped, etc. Then does a wheelie. 34:35 Learning to ride a motorcycle on a track or closed course vs on the street. 35:15 Keith Code discusses the concept of sportbikes on the street vs track. 37:55 Track-only bikes. 38:38 Why beginners should go to a track for a school or track day.

I saw this a few weeks ago. Good video! They do a good job of making doing things safely interesting.

the cost aspect of a sport bike crash is something people just don't think about...
they are naively optimistic... since they won't crash, why would they waste money on good insurance and gear, etc.? why not get the most expensive/powerful bike in the dealership? if they follow through this illogical thought process, what happens is they will lose the bike, the money, their health. motorcycles like all dangerous things, takes intelligence, skill, and money to operate. if you lack skill, you can buy training. if you lack money, you can get another job. if you lack intelligence, you can get a car.

Very nice video! For someone that hasn't ridden a bike yet, this was perfect for me. I am no longer interested supersports for the street. All I care about is being safe on the road and gaining the skills to be a confident and skillful rider. How much does gear cost on average?
