Alarm/Immobiliser
Hi guys,
Okay so here's my first stupid question for the forum.... I have a fairly standard 2008 Ninja 250R. I'm looking for insurance and they asked does it have an alarm/immobiliser fitted... I'm sure there is no aftermarket one, but is there a standard factory fitted alarm or immobiliser? Thanks, Chris |

A simple disk lock is an imobilizer. You can even buy them with an alarm. Probably somewhere between $20-100
Oh! And you'll have to try harder than that: that wasn't a stupid question!

Oh so the disc lock counts as an immobiliser? Good stuff, I have one of those, so I wasn't completely lying when I told the insurance company I had one

Keep in mind if you get a discount but don't use the imobilizer; you could void your insurance!

This! Also, use it on the rear disc instead of the front. Two bolts and the caliper is off.....the rear has the swingarm to deal with. Not so easy to unbolt the caliper and run with it.

On the rear disc- huh. I hadn't thought about that. I use a disc-lock on the front.

After watching some videos that show how thieves steal motorcycles so easily I started putting it on the rear instead. I also don't lock the bars....no point when they just kick your bars and break the bar lock. Saves some fixing if you get it back......

I'm glad I live in a small town. When I stop by a store I leave my keys in the ignition all the time.

I've never lived in a small town, and this is pretty much how I feel trying to picture myself doing that. Mind. Blown. Quite certain I couldn't bring myself to operate with that level of trust even if I moved to a suitably small town.

I live in a small town. Matter of fact, main street is maybe 1/3 mile long. I WILL NOT leave my keys int he ignition for any period of time, any where. People cannot be trusted. Even in BFE, neighbors houses have been broken into. I do not leave my garage nor any of my shop doors open so people can see what's inside.

I live in a house where the previous owners left the doors unlocked pretty routinely but it's not something I can or will do. The safety of the neighborhood means that we haven't lost anything when one of us say, leaves the garage or front door open accidentally but it's not something I can do on purpose.

Worked on wife's car, needed a test drive around the block bout a month ago. Thought hey, just leave the shop open gone for 5 minutes no problem. Went to back out of the driveway, truck goes by, I back out and head the other way. I see the truck stopped just past my shop driveway on the main road but didn't think much of it because maybe he had a phone call or something. Get to the end of the road and see his reverse lights come on...immediately flipped a bitch and headed back home. Sees me coming, throws it into drive and books out of there. I check the camera footage and sure enough, he backed up to look down my short driveway and see what was in my shop. Waited until I was almost out of sight too....if I hadn't been paying attention to what was in my rearview mirror, there is a very real chance I would have been short some tools when I got back home. Can't even trust the people in your neighborhood anymore. Quite frankly, it pisses me off and is one of the reasons I live in the country instead of the city. Hey, if you need to borrow something or want to know more about what's going on then stop in when I'm home and introduce yourself. But don't be pulling super shady ****. Bet your ass if I see that truck again when I'm home I'm gonna flag him down and have a chat. /rant

I don't feel confident leaving anything open. Not saying anybody else ought to be as .... paranoid isn't the word I want, but it's close. I just don't want to give anybody the chance. Most people won't mess with anything, but let's not make it easy for that one guy who might. |

I'd try "realistic about human behavior", based on my experience with said behavior.
