The power is reduced because you are now more lean than stock, which is already lean to pass emissions. You need to rejet. The popping is a rich condition caused by closing the throttle while at a high RPM. The fuel mixture is high since you were on the main jet circuit and suddenly closed the throttle, so the unburnt fuel is forced out the exhaust and explodes in the exhaust system. It will sometimes also do it when the throttle is closed slowly. The fuel can be trimmed with the fuel mixture screw and also the main jet needle shape. A jet kit should fix it. The poping will not hurt the engine, but in extreem cases' has been known to blow an exhaust can apart. That is very rare so I would not sweat it. Just rejet the bike and ride the snot out of it.

Oh and the popping is also real common on any twin. My Ducati's and my old RC51 did it from the factory untill I adjusted the trim on the fuel injection. No biggie, just rejet and you should be good to go.

no back firing. Its back fired one time since Ive had it on, and Ive ridden it more with it on than off.... and I did not notice loss in power if anything causing it to run a little leaner has gave it the feeling of a little pep.

One thing I've noticed, post-shimming, is how little I have to leave the choke on during cold starts. Mind you I have never subscribed to the idea of "leave your bike running until it warms up", I've always ridden it with choke on until engine warm-up, but after shimming, I barely have the choke on for a minute or two at most, before I'm closing it. So, that could be a benefit of shimming (it was for me) and you should really get off your bum and do it!...the difference is outstanding!

I got a Dan Moto exhaust too. I shimmed mine with 3 washers on each side (3mm). And for the popping / back fire issue I've read here if you remove the Kleen Air System it will fix it and it did . Right now I'm happy the way she runs..

I have a little air coming out on start up, but once the bike warms up, the leak goes away... I have some exhaust sealer stuff I bought, but haven't put it on yet since there really doesn't seem to be an issue with it so far...

lol...but I just might say farewell to my beloved pops and do the Kleen air delete just to rid my bike of those infernal tubes! It was a humongous pain to shim with all those crisscrossing wires/tubes all over the carbs

They say this on their website: "Every Danmoto Exhaust is developed specially for each bike. Installation of this exhaust requires no fuelling adjustments/tuning." http://www.dan-moto.com/DM_INT/zx-25...oduct-368.html I wonder if that's 100% accurate? What was your experience? |

If it requires no jetting changes, that means it won't make your jetting needs any different than they are stock. That's not saying the stock jetting is perfect though. There's still room for improvement in the stock jetting.
If you pull the snorkel at the same time as installing any exhaust changes, it's good idea to test one size larger main jet |

As to rejetting, maybe I'll do that when I get a full exhaust, but with just a slip-on shimming was all my ninjette needed and I have no flat spots or any other weird issues in the power. So, my best advice would be to shim it. Experiment, that's the key word when it comes to finding the sweet spot (mine was 2 washers under each needle + removed snorkel).good luck |

Shimming is just one step of a trial-and-error process known as jetting.
Jetting is making changes to the carbs to deliver the right amount of fuel. First you do the mains, then raise the needles by shimming, then the idle mix screws (in a nut shell) Shimming on its own is just skipping one step because the Keihin 98 main jets that come on the bike stock are rich, so typically, a slip-on is fine with those main jets, but the mid-range needs help. Enter shimming. |

Ill post pic Tomorrow when the sun is back out.
But can anyone tell me why I smell so much more gas after putting on this exhaust? and will shimming really help performance to equal or greater than the stock exhaust? Also, why does my needle bounce a little bit when its idling? (it moves up and down from 1rpm to 2 rpm slowly while at a stand still) |

hmm...as to your smelling of more gas, I don't have a clue. I rarely smell gas on mine, sometimes I get a whiff when I'm really tucked in, but even so, it's momentary. Shimming will definitely improve your bike's performance (low and mid range), I have yet to run across a shim that yielded poor performance gains. I'd advice you to shim, but before you do, read up on it (http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=11963) and get the appropriate tools.
As to the jittery RPM needle...was the engine fully warmed up during this time? If it was, then you can always try adjusting it (there's a knob on the left side of the bike). Hope I helped |

I believe the stock exhaust has a Catalytic converter inside te can which might explain why the Dan Moto exhaust smells more like gas.

Can someone post a link for the Carbon exhaust? I'm not seeing a carbon one at www.dan-moto.com
Just figured it out! The carbon GP is only on the International website. |

I had one on my bike. It was super easy to install, sounded great, and the quality of it was pretty good.
It is quite loud when you get on it hard. And every once in a while, when you start your bike when it's cold, it'll backfire and scare the **** out of you. The only complaint I had was that after about 4 months, the carbon fiber and loosened from the can and started to leak around the bottom. Wasn't a big deal at all, just a minor issue. Overall, though, by far the best exhaust for under $300.

They all sound exactly the same. DanMoto uses the same internals in all their pipes. They just surround them with a different can.
