Rain Drenched Bike Won't Start
OK guys. My bike got caught in the rain and now it won't start. Help me please. Here is what I have done:
1. Completely dried the entire bike. 2. Drained the tank and replaced with fresh gas. 3. Removed and cleaned carb. 4. Cleaned spark plugs. 5. Replace computer (from track bike) I am getting compression and it turns over fine. It just won't start. I'm at wits end. I wanna ride. HELP!!! |

Was it sitting in the rain or were you riding it? Have you checked inside the airbox / airfilter? Are both carb boots and vacuum hoses securely fitted?
Most Japanese motorcycle electrical connectors are open at the rear, letting in moisture that will collect on the male and female pins/sockets, causing a short, blowing a fuse or creating corrosion limiting current flow. Have you checked your connections? |

It was sitting in the rain. New air filter and the box is clean and dry. Carb work should be tight. Pulled it twice and then replaced with the one from track bike. No blown fuses. Checked them all...even the horn. I have not checked all the connections for corrosion. Which ones would prevent it from starting? I have fuel and spark.

How much rain are you talking about?
I lived in a country where it rained on average 10 days every month, the bike was used to commute for 2 years so was parked outside for 8-10 hours a day rain or shine and it always started first go. The rain shouldn't cause any problem |

Put your bike in a plastic bag with white rice, the white rice will pull all the moisture out and it should start up like new again.

PS: If the engine turns over, you have compression and spark, and it STILL won't start, and you have checked everything.... then you missed something. Re-check all the electrical connections that could have been exposed, it is possible a short is stopping it from starting. Check that none of your hoses are clogged somehow. |

ok my bike was also drenched the same day as yours and would not start.
I followed this thread and found some more here and the interwebs and figured out what needed to be done. Problem: -Left bike in downpour for no reason (lazy note:wife said "told ya so") -Bike tried to start first attempt then nothing -would turn over and could hear and feel compression The Fix (after checking other stuff) -with tap turned to "on" -drained BOTH carb bowls into little cup -tried to start only to fill bowls -drained bowls again -tried to start....almost started -time to drain tank -drain bowls once again -fill tank -turn over till bowls fill and boom... Its running great again could have omitted a few steps there but was testing the "waters" HA I guess I have a bad gas cap seal. thats the only thing I can figure? dunno if this'll help but good luck |

It does but I've done everything there is to do with the gas and carb. Drained and then replaced. The carb on it has 125 miles on it. It like brand new.

Spark is good and bright?
Plug firing consistently? Not intermittent.

Un-clip all your electrical connections and blow them out with an air compressor, if you don't have an air compressor use your mouth
Good luck |

Yes it could keep it from starting..........but if it is in neutral it rolls freely, correct?

The rolling thing could be as simple as clutch cable adjustment, I wouldn't worry about it right now. Get it firing in neutral then go from there.
The fact that it doesn't fire every time when using starting fluid sounds like intermittent spark to me. Are you just spaying some into the airbox? Better would be to remove airbox and spraying equal amount directly onto each carb......Both cylinders should fire every time like that.
