Glove Modifications
I wondering if anyone here is capable of modifying gloves for people such as myself that are missing partial or all of a finger? I lost a battle with a table saw years ago and have fighting quality vs. convenience vs. financial lose with motorcycle gloves ever since. I'd really like to purchase some quality Held gloves but I would need them modified for a custom fit and to avoid any control issues with the bike. I contacted Held as I figured they would be best at modifying their own gloves but no response as of yet. I've provided a picture for a better understanding of what I would need done.
Anyone??? Here's the glove I'd love to have. It's their Air n Dry Series. Probably the hardest one to modify since it has an inner liner chamber for rainy days. Basically a glove within a glove.

It shouldn't be too bad to do yourself, but to leave the stitching as OEM you would need the right sewing machines. I would ask my mother to do it as she has been a seamstess all her life and has all the right machines but you are on the other side of the US. Try locally through craigslist

A local racer here can do it for you. She doesn't have a website though. There's also another lady somewhat local here that can do it too. www.Catwalkleather.com

Would you settle for sewing the middle finger to the ring finger so that the empty "compartment" at least bent around the grip like the other finger. This would leave you the use of your index finger for clutch... a sailmaker's needle is hook shaped and might do well for stitching the two together. Lastly, make a little foam insert to go in the empty finger? Hope this is helpful.

Just search out a local seamstress, or a leather alteration company. The charge would be fairly minimal.

My dad has a similar problem in his right hand. Lost half his middle finger in a press machine. He has a nice joke about it tho... He holds up four of his fingers and asks someone "how many fingers do you see?" the person generally replies "four" "no you idiot, it's three and a half, can't you see?" lol
Good luck getting your problem solved. |

not to be insensitive, but do people often think you are flipping them off when you wear glvoes?

Find a good shoe repair shop. A good one can do just about anything you want.

Helimot resizes each finger as needed when you buy their gloves locally. But it's not rocket science, and odds are you can find a local tailor or other leather shop to make the needed changes on just that finger.

Maybe I should give local a try again. I know it would be the easiest and cheapest but I don't mind paying for a quality job especially when we are talking about $200 pairs of gloves...
