crashed, ouch...
Well unbelievable, but it happened. An 80 old man, tried to make a u-turn in front without seeing me, i clipped his driver side molding, threw me off or i dont really know what happened. Bad road rash my right knee, my left arm, that i slid on its road rashed, my left elbow, my shoulder where again i landed on it. Im pretty banged up, ambulance took me to the ER, they cleaned my wounds, gave me pain medication and i can walk but hurts so bad.
580 mile bike, left side is scratched and cracked beyond, the gear shifter is now hanging, no more peg, front fairing under headlights broken, and pretty much bad. He didn't signal or pay attention to anything, he tried making a u-turn at a small intersection street, by making a right on the street, then making a sudden left to make the u-turn, when he could have just signaled left and stay in center and make the u-turn. Im still in shock, and really can't really think straight. Be careful guys, people just don't ****ing care out there, and don't pay attention to the road. Wasn't really my fault, except that i was wearing a T-Shirt. Yes i know and im aware, i was in the process of buying a Jacket, but it happened. Sorry for the long essay, but im pretty shaken up, and clueless. and damn it hurts.. |

Geez man. You're exactly right, people (no matter what age) just simply don't pay attention.
Also good to hear that you realize the importance of the gear that you were missing. What did your insurance co. say? Since he's at fault will your bike work and med bills be paid for? One of the most stressful things about accidents can be the financial burden but hopefully you won't have to worry about that.

What insurance do you have on your bike? Have they been helpful to to start working with the car driver's insurance?

Sorry to hear about your accident.
I think people that old should be retested every year. If you think about it, may be when he got his license 60+ yrs ago the law may have been different. May be it was legal to make a u-turn then. |

Yea its starting to get Hotter out now (michigan) thou i Still fully gear up, even if only riding short distances, work, etc! Theres been afew times i was thinking of leaving the jacket/riding pants at home, but i still wear them. Im not lechering about gear, just saying that i View this kinda thing happening to me, and if it does, while im falling-thinking "**** i knew i shouldve wore my Scorpion Gear Today" Ya know. I hope the cager pays for all your bills! a U-turn? WTF! When someone is clearly under FAULT like this guy, the Insurance companies, etc... this should be a No-Brainer... That Cager pays for all!!!! (period) Man when i was younger, and ive wiped out on my BMX bike, on the pave... i know how Bad and the Burning of Rashes can be (going downhill @ 45MPH on a hilly area) but ill guess Your Rashes from falling off teh Ninja are 5x more painful! Well man, i hope you make a Good fast recovery, and dont let that make you Think of selling your Ninja! Even if break a leg,arm,etc.. once im healed, im NOT quiting.. Motorcycling is too much FUN IMO to give up! (unless im a Veggie) Glad your ok though. |

I would say it was your fault for not being prepared for an idiot attack. Of course it's the old buzzards fault for being on the road and thinking that everyone is supposed to look out for him, but it's your fault for not looking out for him. If he didn't give you a warning let me give it to you and everyone else right now, ride defensively and always expect someone to try and kill you. I hope you get well soon. I hope he is no longer allowed to drive. I hope he has insurance. I hope his rates go up like a teenage boy's rates would (3x).

I know how tempting it is to not wear gear - it's upper 80's and super high humidity here today, and I just got in and can wring the sweat out of my shirt, but it's worth it to me.... and you know why now unfortunately. At least it's just scrapes and bruises. Make sure to take pain killers before bed tonight, as it will feel worse tomorrow

yeah was a 85 day so nice and sunny.
I called insurance, and everything and they're in the process of investigating it. Also there was a nice lady behind me who saw everything stopped to see if i was alright, then she left me her number and name as a witness. I contacted her, and she said she saw everything and that not to worry she's with me on this. Also they will call me to come take a look at the bike an appraise it. I will get some pics of the damage and post it up. As for me, they prescribed me Vicodin. Changing the bandage sucks, burns so much. ahh such a nice day to ride |

Hope you get well with as few difficulties as possible.
Yep, like Oscar is saying, you have to try to read the situation and anticipate. If you're not sure what they're going to do, then give them a little more room than usual.

OMFS..... It happens but it doesn't ease the pain. Sorry to hear about the accident. There's no rage that can make it easier for you. If there was you'd hear our voices across the continent.
Hang in there and make sure you're well and happy as soon as possible. The most important part to get back to normal is the one between your ears. Take care of yourself. |

The insurance company totaled my car and I got a check for about 3 times as much as what I paid for it. Hopefully you'll have similar luck. All the best! PS--Our humidity here is relatively moderate but we've got triple digit temperatures the rest of this week.

John, I'm really sorry to hear this. A speedy recovery to you!
I saw another crashed 08' on the off-ramp (from the 110 S) for 6th Street going into Downtown this morning. It was by itself on it's kickstand. It looked really banged up. Bent right handlebar and everything. Not a good day for 250 riders :/

How about "Crash Club"? I used to have a sweat shirt years ago (among other sick items) I would wear at Bike Week that had "Crash Club" on the front. Yes, it did invoke women to come up to me and ask.... no I never tell the truth...at least when it comes to women and .....you get the idea.

The Sideways Motorcycle Club has a better ring to it I had the pleasure of joining with my dad when I was 18 - already had a broken arm and he laid it down on a crazy fire trail... the old coot still won't admit that a Honda Silverwing is not a dual-sport bike and had no business being on that road

that's one of the few benefits of crashing.
heal up quickly, then don't do that again! picture request was for others to see what can happen when you crash and to have reality staring them back in the face. so many here think it can't/won't happen to them and don't gear up because they are invincible. |

I wish i could have taken pictures right when it happened, but i was in shock, and even the police and the ambulance couldn't really talk to me.
I was pissed off, because the guy came out of the car, saying he's sorry. Lesson learned about gear, wear it or deal with horrible sting pain from road rashes, days missed from work, and other random complications. |

slid today
slid today on the way uphill to haleakala summit (maui). ride was fun and scary. im probably just halfway through when the (un)expected happen. luckily, no traffic was coming my way as i cross the opposite lane and into the dirt. bike was banged up pretty bad but still okay. lose my right turn signal, major scrathes on right front fairing, right rearset broke taking my brake lever with it, slip on was badly scrath and right tail section is crushed. called some towing companies but they dont service the area. end up riding my bike downhill without rear brake and badly sored right arm. icon jacket hold up pretty well but my jeans didnt. im ordering a one piece leather suit asap im a little worried about my right arm as it hurts pretty bad. gotta get some xray later today
