Best exhaust? Totsubu, LEO, Area P?
OK i know this topic is beaten like a dead horse but i recall seeing someone posted that the highest HP numbers went Totsubo exhaust, Leo vince and then area p. Is this right?
My tax refund is way more than expected, so on top of paying more credit card debt i feel like treating myself since im a selfish bastard. Sign up extra early for a track weekend, and full intake/exhaust on the 250 which wasnt planned at all. I really want the most for my money, ideally i would love to find an ecu, throttle b ody, etc from overseas to have a bolt on FI kit as well. I want the highest hp, id really love to hit 35hp to the wheel or get damn close. Area Ps race xhaust was like 32. Now was that with the KN filter? What if i bought the DNA stage 3 filter with the full exhaust? Totsubo would be nice, but its really the LV vs the area P, and honestly the LV EVO 2 is like 400 bucks on revzilla right now (50% off) so that would be my honest choice, especially if it can get a tad higher than the area p high mount race system which is almost 700. |

get the one you want. "best" is relative to the sound, shape, and style you're after.
That being said, Leo Vince makes a quality product, and I'm very satisfied with the carbon fiber one I got on my FZ1. For it being 50% off, jump on that!

Im even looking to buy the DNA stage 3 filter vs the KN, which is like a 200 dollar difference IF it makes as big of a difference as they claim. Im toying b etween buying the ecotrons FI kit or try to piece together something OEM from overseas and using a PCV as well. Ecotrons has been pretty quite as of late, so im wondering if all the kinks got worked out or if it just fell by the wayside. Will do Chris, you know i value your opinion! I had no plans on putting more power int he 250 this year, but what the heck. I could buy a nice akro exhaust for the 1000 and pick up 15whp, or put an exhaust on the 250 for like 5whp haha. Dunno why im choosing the 250 |

Jay, just my 2cts.
The Totsubo is from what I'd read the one with the highest power gain, but I think this is a race exhaust and from what I'd read also it must be very loud. The two systems from LV and AP don't differ that much, with the LV should have a little higher power gain than the AP. But the main difference is that the LV has a worldwide registration and is working with FI and carbs while the AP is a local American system optimized for carbed Ninjettes, what at least is understandable since the US had the carb only (AP should have started FI system exhausts with the Ninja 300, when I'm right?). I also don't know about the quality of AP, which should be ok, but the LV is a very high quality system. LV you should remember is financially struggling a little bit. |

Never trust any claims about HP gain without independent dyno tests. Here's one example:
http://www.skagitpowersports.com/def...age=ninjatests it's done on Ninja 300 with help of Power Commander. On 250 you may see somewhat similar gains only if you tune your carburetor, which adds to the cost. if you think converting to FI, consider whether it'll be cheaper to sell your bike and buy Ninja 300.

- this is a very good reminder, also you should keep in mind that for the Ninja 300 there are seven different ecus and for the Ninja 250-FI there are four different ecus - so dyno is NOT dyno...

Chris even with a GB the LV is significantly cheaper I like the way it looks vs the area P as well. Its on closeout, so i may just pull the trigger and buy it tonight.
Buying a 300 isnt in the card, ever. I have too much time and emotion in my 250. Transplanting a 300 motor would be an option, but im not really trying to go crazy here either. It was my first bike, its now my track bike until i buy a dedicated track bike. Point taken on the ECU options, maybe ecotrons is a better solution then? Hopefully the local dyno tuner can tune their software and eek every bit of power from it. |

If I was keeping my 250, I would buy the LV in a heartbeat.
Heck, I still might buy one... hold onto it for a few months and then sell it for a profit.

As far as my track addiction schedaul this is my tentative list pal, -In may ill be taking a long weekend trip to the dragon- Then my track schedual since im buying a membership. June 2nd - Razee Day - this is prob the cheapest day for you guys. Its 195 for the day, and if no one on BoRN has a suit to lend you for free, then its 100 to rent suit/boot/gloves etc from TTD. This is at Thompson Speedway. June 29,30th, Palmer MA Track. Cost for non members is 240 for the day, cant wait to ride this track, looks awesome. July 25th, 26th - only 1 or possibly both days with team promotion at NYST. I have a bad feeling this track may close so i need to get there this year. Aug 23,24th, Thompson Track, Cost for non members is 270 for sunday or 240 for monday. Then at somepoint in Sept i will do another 2 day event, i just dont know if i want to do Palmer or thompson, ill decide after i ride Palmer. Hows that? |

DNA shows 21% Air flow increase, where pipercross has 30% gain. I haven't Dyno'd mine since adding pipercross but they do tout to increase HP/Torque (but I can't find any specs on what that actually is). Anyway you can find a lot of info on current air filters for 250/300 here: https://www.ninjette.org/wiki/Air_fi..._the_Ninja_300

keep the stock air box and put a clean filter in it (it actually does a good job as it is, minus the snokel), spending all that money for that stage 3 kit can be spent on better things like tires and suspension

And again....no, im not "upgrading" to a 300. Im still up in the air about racing in the 300 class within the next couple years, 250s can mod anything above the heads (so no engine swap, boring, stroking, etc). 300s cant do anything (maybe a pipe now though), and the R3 i think is going to be allowed in the class. |

unless you want to stay within some kind of regulations for racing I would stroke it.
What exhaust you running now? $400 for a LV seems like a good deal but you are still talking a few ponies at best. You can probably pick up a whole 300 engine for $600 give or take. Do crank & rod transplant and bingo you have a 300 in 250 clothing (a little more to it than that, but not much) If you get whole engine, you can sell other engine bits to make up some cash, or shop around for crank bits by themselves to save some initial cash.

Im on the stock exhaust right now. And im still up in the air about racing the 300 class, so id still like to keep it a true 250 for now.
Honestly im not trying to make this bike something it isnt, i have my 1000 if i need the speed fix. I breifly tossed up the idea of dropping the 300 motor in, but i can gain that by doing this exhaust and intake. Im nearing the end of what my end goal is for the 250, after intake/exhaust and possibly FI, a KOSO unit will complete what i wanted this bike to be years ago. |

and again, you wouldn't need to drop the whole motor in, just buy a used crankshaft for like $300 or under, some rods and other odds and ends. and transplant it into your current 250 motor. You wouldn't have to worry about efi conversion or anything like that, just rejet

after reading the turbo threads it is obvious to me that it is far to much work and I would never complete it. Ergo concordantly vis-à-vis, thievery is the only option

Turbo is much, much easier with EFI, so if you're planning on eventually going the turbo route, consider that.
