Trades in bikes
Thinking about trading in my 07 ninja for a 2010 ninja. Does this sounds stupid for staying with a 250 and not going up to a 600?

Of course not, as long as the you are still having fun and the 250 meets or exceeds what you need and want from the bike then go for it! The newer models look better anyways
Just make sure you get yourself a good deal, in some cases you might be better off privately selling and then paying with cash versus trading in. A lot of dealers won't cut as much off the price when they find out you are trading in. Good luck with the sale though! |

Not at all. I have been going down in size with my purchases (although I just keep my previous bikes ).

Depends on many factors but there is nothing stupid about sticking with what you want or are comfortable riding.
Let's start with what you want out of riding? What is a 600 going to give YOU vs your current bike or vs. a newer 250? Would you feel confident riding something with more power? Do you mean trade in to a dealer? Then I would say no, selling the bike would most likely net you more $$$ than trade in value. Especially if you can wait until tax time or the start of the season.

If you like your 2007 for what it is and just want a fresh look then go for it. This kind falls in line with re-painting your bike. You do it for the look and not for the performance, although I'd imagine get on 17" tires would be a nice benefit

The 250 and 600 are very different bikes. If you are happy with the 250 then stay with that style of bike. IMO asking if you should move "up" to a 600 supersport from the Ninja 250 is like asking if you should move "up" to a motard, or a dual sport, or a cruiser. They are different bikes.

The 300 is as far from the 250 as the new 500 Honda is, despite parts in common. If you like the size of the chassie and the dynamics of the bike, the 300 is a clear few steps above the 250. My son has a 2012 parked next to my 300. Night and day better in every way for the 300. Not even close.

Get a 2010 in red. Those are the fastest!
In all seriousness, if funds permit, heavily consider dat 300r! If I hadn't put so much money into my 250r, I'd love to upgrade to a 300

Traded my 2010 250 for the 2013 300 ABS. It is everything I loved about the 250...and then some.

I started on a pre-gen 250. Couldn't see me riding something significantly bigger due to my height so I was going to get a new-gen 250. Course the 300 came out, so I jumped on that instead and I'm happy I did.

eww why would sumone on a ninjette forum propose going to the underpowered honda 500r, I'd say go 300, old ugly ninja 500 (they make more power then then honda 500r), or a ninja 650. just my opinion

Ninja 300. If you want something more powerful I wouldnt hesitate to have you get the Ninja 650, at all. Any year. They are great bikes. Seriously.
I wouldnt mind giving the 300 a try though. FWIW I have owned a: 2007 GSXR 600 2006 KLX 250 1999 TL1000R Currently I own 2005 Ninja 250 2006 Ninja 650R 1998 TL1000R I dont want to get rid of any of those bikes, but I wouldnt mind fuel injection and just a touch more grunt on the 250. Some sexier plastic would help, too.

The 650 is not a huge jump in power from the 500 surprisingly. Very manageable.

Everything about the Ninja 650 feels better to me though. It has no shared major components, but it really is the long overdue evolution of the EX500. A used 2006-2008 650 can be had for 2008-up Ninja 250 money pretty commonly....However if you dont need the power, dont corrupt yourself with it.

I have been on an ex500 daily for 4 years. The ex500 feels like a big bike, i have never paid more then 500 for an ex500 and i've had 4 of them so far. The 650 is definitely a jump in comparisson to the ex500 from everything to fuel injection to handling. If I can find a ninja 650 for around $2200 i intend to get it. I'm also biased against honda. |

The difference between the 500 and the 650 is power wheelies

Because for some unforseen reason half the time when I get a honda in to work on, it's the same stupid problems that could have been fixed by honda. But they have a bit of a god complex where they feel they do nothing wrong.
When a 2008 CBR 1000rr comes to you in 2010 with a rectifier and regulator issue and then almost every other Molested or unmolested honda you work on has wiring issues or spark issues. The only thing i've ever dealt with honda that doesn't give major issues is there's pressure washer and go kart GX series engines. Also the CRF50. |
