First day report-82 miles-and pics.
My sister and I got to the dealership about 2pm. The bike was ready and I signed the papers. Getting used to a small bike was comical. In the parking lot, the engine was about 4,000rpm, but it was barely moving. For a second I thought the clutch was slipping-wow 1st gear is REALLY low. You could prolly pull a 5X8 trailer in 1st Going down the road, the bike was already in 6th, but the high RPM made me think I needed to shift again-did that a few times. For the first few miles, I did not get on the freeway-wanted to take it easy during the break in. But it would take forever to get home, so I was on the entrance ramp to the mighty I-10. Took it up to 65 indicated-no faster. Cars were flying past me. After 12 miles, took the feeder streets the rest of the way. Total today-82 miles. It is a fun little bike, but the leaned forward position will take some getting used to(I have 1 inch handlebar risers on the 650R). My big fat gut touches the tank. here are some pics.
At the dealership. Wild West sells Hondas, Kawis, BMW, and KTM. Red and green-looks like Christmas. I guess this is my early Christmas present to me Tomorrow I will relocate the turn signals where the reflectors are so the saddlebags will fit. I cut some clear sheets of vinyl to protect the tank. Thry are noticible on the black in the sun, but barely detectable on the green. My second bike purchased from Wild West. In '06 I bought a new KLR650. Now the best pics.

Nice pics welcome to the green/se club. Yeah the break in on the bike sucks(makes it seem slow), but I just rode it as much as I could on side streets. Once you get done with break in then you can see how the bike really performs. Also if you work on carbs you should try shimming the needles once you get miles on the bike it will help that low end response. Mines pulls of easily from near idle where as before I had to rev to about 2500-3000 to get it to move off right.

Congratulations on the new bike. Hopefully before it gets too cold or next season we can get a bunch of us from the Houston area together for a ride.

Congrats on the new bike.
The way I look at it... any new bike is a great bike! If I could afford to fill my garage up with motorcycles I would. Sport bikes, cruisers, choppers, you name it. Ride a different one every day. Ah, heaven. Enjoy the new sweet new ride. |

One of the easiest ways to deal with the phantom 7th gear shift is to go up a tooth in the front. Gives the bike a whole different personality IMHO.

Yes that is being considered. But I want to get past break in and see how it does when I can ride it "normal". Then I'll decide.
