New V2V technology could be great for bikers

It seems like this could be a great tool for bikes. The technology enables vehicles to "communicate" with each other. A vehicle could warn another vehicle of an impending collision or you could be told another vehicle is coming around a blind turn. These kind of things would be really handy on a bike.

Obviously there would be lots of things to work out but it has potential. It's years away currently.

And here is a little more info from the DOT.

http://www.its.dot.gov/research/v2v.htm

Sorry, I'm a tech nerd so this I get a little excited about new technology.

It's interesting, there's some great idea to this. Only thing I could think wrong is what if some body uses this to basically create traffic jams. Tampering with what things are used to create safety is what people do for fun lol.

One of those nice to have technologies. We still fail to wear our seatbelts and stop looking at our phones.

Now, if it could be taught to warn left turning vehicles to watch out for us...

That would be something.

I thought of that as well. Imagine if someone was making a left turn, they started to pull into the opposing lane but their dash lights up with a red message warning of them pulling into an oncoming vehicle's lane.

That could save some lives.

Apparently Honda and BMW are already working with the DOT on this technology.

"Honda is also adapting V2V to motorcycles as “V2M.” Honda says V2M will help make motorcycles more visible on the road by warning drivers of their presence even when the bikes are obscured in blind spots."
