Okay, so it ain't pretty, but...
... it's a dedicated, fully sorted track bike that I got for a real steal. 06 Yamaha R6, the fun one with titanium valves and an F1-like redline.
Well "loved" complete with rashed bodywork, bashed-in tank and ground-down frame slider and rearset peg on the left side. BUT... there's lots and lots of goodness once you start looking close.... Plenty of Woodcraft and Vortex stuff Scotts steering damper Full titanium exhaust Power Commander Among other things... and best of all.... Full Ohlins, front and back! I looked everything up and I could part this sucker out, selling just the nifty add-on bits, and make money. Not selling any of my GSX-R track parts. Just putting it away for future use.

Already found an undamaged tank (rare) and it's on the way... going to ask for a new lower for xmas.
Or I might just leave it... the bike has mojo.

You know my bike, lemme see if I can find pics of the fairings before they were fixed because you know what it looks like now. Epoxy and kitty hair man... then some (a lot lol) sanding and you're ready for a coat of paint. It's really easy and if you take your time and do a real good job, it can turn out looking really, really good.

Oh yeah, I know how to do glass work. I helped build a fiberglass airplane once... I also built myself a kayak.
Actually doing the layup is the easy part. The rest is toxic and a hassle, but manageable. Once time and materials start to edge in on the cost of replacement, I jump ship.

Wasn't Mrs Fist trying to keep you on a one-bike leash? How'd you manage to convince her on this one? EDIT: Don't get so set on that super high red line. Looks like it's no more than the normal 600cc supersport. Just reads higher. http://www.motorcycledaily.com/2006/...ary06_redline/ |

For example... did you know? 1. Want a quickshifter? 06r6 has a built in quickshifter!!! Disabled by the factory ecu. Skip the 1k kit and just buy the shift rod clicker & cable for $200 or so. 2. Want a gear indicator? 06r6 has a built in gear indicator!!! Disabled by the factory ecu. The dash can be configured for speedo or gear 3. Want to skip the bizzaz or pc all together? Buy the ecu to usb cable and you can adjust the fuel map, timing and set the redline limit as you see fit without aftermarket boxes. 4. Want a speedo healer? Why? You can adjust the speedo, gear ratio and various other speed related params in the factory ecu to get a correct speed on the dash. 5. Want to reduce engine braking? Yep, that can be tweaked too but BEWARE on this one though... Riders use the crap outta engine braking and another subtle thing about riding. There is a local gent to me that knows his stuff about flashing the factory ECU to be wise with your $$$$. Riders are raving about the new 2015 R1 and all the electronics that it comes with, but imho... yami has been building up to that for their bikes for years. Here is an interesting link for you Mr. Fist. http://www.assfaultjunkies.com/showt...l=1#post473453 Play your cards right and the r6 is a beast for very cheap when ridden well and playing to its strengths. And the reason most of the race winning riders threw a leg over a yami becomes clearer. Given 2 equal riders, the 2nd place rider was defeated by math. It's subtle like that. EDIT: There will be a courting/mating period, where the rider and bike get used to each other. But once the rider figures out where the bike performs, they find it's not the easiest bike to ride. Keep the rpms up at all costs or it goes flatlined and then it wakes up very grumpy and aggressive, much like a high strung 2 stroke powerband.

I knew you would end up getting one. You don't go to the track 6 or so times a year and not end up with a dedicated track bike! Justine laughed when you asked me what you should do like I would have said anything other than buy the damn thing! HA.
Hope you get to use it Sunday, but if not at least we will be on the track. Last trackday of the year

Just made an appointment with Pete at Computrack for Saturday am.... spring swap and baseline setup. So yep... looks like I'll be riding it Sunday.
I could probably just have ridden the thing but a big part of doing a track day is being confident... and it'd bug me knowing the bike was set up for a guy 40 lbs heavier than me and way, WAY faster (Boris is a black group rider). The postman also just dropped off the used seat I got off of eBay. I see x-acto knives and spray glue in my near future.

Chris... hmmmm.....
The bike has a PC3 USB (presumably tucked into the tail... I've been so slammed I haven't even looked). So it's already been tweaked in some way, probably for the exhaust. The QS function does intrigue me. But baby steps... I just want to go ride it, fix what needs fixing, etc. It'll be a nice project to keep me from chewing my arm off over the winter.

What's the thought on reducing engine braking and why do people do it??? I personally kinda like the comfort of the engine braking that I've gotten used to. Sets a nice speed reduction for turns I want to slow a hair but shouldn't be teddy bear braking on. Idk, I'm used to it at this point. |

Why?
Brakes are cheap, engines are expensive. - K. Code That is why I said BEWARE. Riders get used to the amount of speed scrubbed off just by rolling off the throttle. A change in programming and bam... the next time they ride, the braking markers or amount of braking needs a slight adjustment. And we definately don't like to be surprised in the braking zone. :\ EDIT: And yet another reason why I say, don't fix what is not broken.

Oh I dunno, I'm just used to the ninjette's engine braking. Kinda like it. I think it would feel kinda weird if it didn't do that.
makes sense to be careful when switching to a new bike that you're not accustomed to. |
