Winter riding

Thought I'd start a new thread for photos of riding in the winter - ice racing, general off-road, or maybe even hardcore street riding. Post some photos of what you like to do.

Here are some photos of my boys (16 and 19 ) out on the lake this weekend. Conditions were really good for a non-studded bike - temps were above freezing and packing snow. Pretty decent riding. If the snow is soft and fluffy and you go right down to smooth ice, you'll go nowhere fast without studs. If you are studded you want smooth glare ice. We didn't stud the bikes this year, but may get some other wheels so we can just swap wheels.

Enough snow this time that you didn't need a kickstand -

A few more photos previously posted in another thread -

Studded one of the XR a few seasons back -

I have studded tires to ice race my Mx bike, but I hate changing tires, so I just never go... I need to invest in a pair of ice rims... And supermoto rims.

Nice, thanks Jay! It looks very cool riding in the snow. Right now it's shirt sleeve weather here in Nor Cal.

Normally by now we would have ~8 inches of snow, but for some reason its mid 30's with no snow. I don't miss is at all.

Depends. In the slushy snow it's not too bad, but bailing on the smooth ice can be painful. Not like I'd know or anything...

I just missed high-siding on the lake this weekend at about 30 or 35 mph. Luckily my oldest was behind me to witness it. He probably would have run over me if I did.

Probably would have hurt a bit - especially at my age. Luckily I saved it, that time. He was surprised.

well thankfully punxsutawney phil says that winter will be over quicker this year. Already thinking of getting the bike back out, don't think we even got an inch of snow this year, perhaps an inch of salt but the roads are clear now.

My cousin out in Calgary was riding his bike a week ago before he came out here for a visit, no snow left, all melted while ago. Saskatchewan was cold but pretty brown, we still have a decent amount of the white stuff. Far too cold/icy to do any street riding that's for sure. If I keep the KLX or get another WR down the road I'd like to get a couple sets of wheels for ice racing and for DOT knobbies.
