Hard to downshift any ideas why?

Hey guys,

I have a 2010 250 I'm building for racing and it is very hard to downshift. I currently have ebay rearsets setup for gp shift and it literally hurts to try and downshift on this bike. Is this common? Any ideas of why this is going on?

I've installed a Factory Pro shift spring but it was hard before I ever installed this. Clutch is setup properly too. No idea what's going on. Any help would be appreciated!

The chain is most likely too tight. Perhaps you adjusted your slack on the stands and when the bike is on the wheels + rider weight it's too tight. It should have about an inch slack fully loaded.

Chain too tight is the #1 most common reason to fail trackday or race tech. I hope it's that simple for you.

I would start there.

Remove the connection to the engine's shifter shaft and see if there is any binding in the rearsets. Make sure the arms are in the correct position and the joints aren't binding.

If you have stock parts available, you could put them back on and see if it solves the problem.

Shifter linkage alignment is critical for proper operation, check it especially when you changed the rear sets, something tells me it's off.

I pulled the trigger on a set of woodcrafts. Solved the problem! STAY AWAY FROM CHINA SETS! I personally didn't buy them, they came on the bike already!
