Twice down
I've put my 2010 250 and zx10 down once each. The 250 was in 2012. At a 4 way traffic light in the left turn lane. Got a green turn arrow and started going when a truck on the opposite side made a right into the same lane there was a concrete divide so I couldn't go any more to the left so I slammed on the brakes n locked up the rear and played it down. Truck kept going. A person in a car behind me followed the truck and got a picture of his plates and came back to me. Driver was uninsured.
On the ZX10 I was merging left into carpool lane behind a truck when I noticed a prius cutting across 6 lanes of traffic to get into the HOV lane. He cut off the truck in front of me who slammed on the brakes along with the vehicles to my right all taking evasive maneuvers. To my left was again a concrete barrier.I once again locked up my rear and laid it down. I took off my back brakes so I won't ever have that problem again. Just kidding. I have adjusted my braking technique. |

I'm not sure if it was the BRC or the BRC2 course that taught how to slam on the brakes while mid turn. Basically, we had to abruptly stand the back back up and do a "quick stop" while mid corner.
Unless the OP was going extremely fast for that corner, that skill would've came in handy. For the ZX-10 incident, it's sad....but most jurisdiction will place fault for the person who couldn't stop in time. They don't care what happened in front of you that forced everyone to slam on their brakes. They'll put you at fault for not having adequate following distance.

I can't answer for the OP, but if he started riding during his USMC career I'm pretty sure he had to have some formal training to ride on base. They tend to be quite strict about that sort of thing. For example:

Honestly, for the second situation, it doesn't sound like your braking technique that needed adjustment, but your riding technique. There should have been enough space in front of you to brake safely. If there wasn't, it wasn't safe to change lanes.
Apologies if that comes off sounding harsh or superior.

That's all good n positive feed back. I have the BRC and ARC completed but I guess I just have some bad habits. I was told by CHP that it was basically my fault for not being able to stop in time since there were no witnesses who stopped. I have been told that endos are a good way to stop fast but im not a stunter so I wouldn't want to try it. I have been in a few close calls since then and I just use mostly front brake and pump the rear. No issues this far.

Like an earlier post above said, if a rider is doing this on the street, their visual skills/anticipation may need help more urgently than their braking.
