FINALLY cleaned and lubed the chain and gave the trim pieces and shiny metal bits a good coat of silicone spray. I've been seriously commuting on it for the past month and it definitely needed it.

The NewGen grounds the clutch switch through the sidestand switch. So holding the clutch to start it only works if you also have the sidestand up (as would be the case if you stalled at a stop sign or something). If it's parked in gear, just holding the clutch in won't allow it to start. This is probably a good little bit of extra protection, as it would probably lurch a bit before stalling when you released the clutch with it in gear (which sounds like what happened to you).

Ordered a new set of tires (going back to the IRC Road Winner).
Hopefully they last longer than 6k.

Pilot Streets that are level with the wear bar. Probably got about 1000 left on them, but I'd rathr not encounter another completely worn down tire like I did week before last on the Honda. So, replacing now (well, next week when they come in).

Put some clear coat on some of her shallower scratches with a clear coat pen. We'll see tomorrow if it buffs out looking anything like good.
Also, took her to the dealership to get her dented tank replaced (it was dented when I bought her, the dealership owed me a new one). Unfortunately they'd ordered in the wrong colour by accident... grey instead of green... I didn't even know Ninjettes came in grey! So all my waiting was for naught. I did draw this on the magnetic doodle board, though. And got greeted with "hey Kawi" by the one guy at the dealership who I chatted with about bikes the last time I was there. Nickname accepted.

...and today I rode her next to an honest to god one-percenter MC for the first time Not intentionally, we were just on the same road for a bit and wound up at the same red light, and one of them looked at me and I nodded and hoped that was okay.
I kind of took off like a shot at the light change and was terrified they'd think I was trying to race them but they didn't seem to care. Even used their turn signals I'd been wondering why there was an entire platoon of motorcycle cops coming off a side road a few miles back. Sure enough, on the ride home a couple of them had been pulled over and were being talked to.

Added another 500 miles to the odo. Trying to relearn how to ride the Ninjette, man this bike is tiny after riding the Honda. But all day back in the saddle and crossing over two Sierra passes really helped get the muscle memory back.
Here's hoping I do get my vacation this month.

Changing my oil, and cleaning the chain I stumbled upon this:
Its been about 300 miles since I've checked it. I've been told to not trust clip style master links. Looks like I'm gonna try the rivet style this time. Sadly the motorsports store is closed Sundays. Might as well change the front brake lines while I'm stranded! |

You are fortunate. I had it happen on my SV650 racebike more than once. And that was [I]after[I]I did the little safety wire loop and a dab of silicone. Now I don't mess with a clip style master link and just go straight for the rivet style.

Doing some testing on 30s Vs 32s carburetors
https://www.ninjette.org/forums/show...wpost&t=269055 32s were OEM carburetors for 86 & 87 Ninjette, 30s for 88~07 Ninjette. Thanks to Ducatiman for trusting me enough to test these for him, and to see if there's issues with installing them on a 88~07, as this was his idea, and I'm more than happy help. The 32s are a direct bolt on swap, with no changes needed.

Work on learning to really apply the brakes hard. It's something that many new riders are hesitant to do, but is a very important skill to learn. My youngest son (16) is taking his second day of the MSF course today. He has been riding dirt bikes since he was 4, and needs to change some of his dirt-riding habits that he has developed. A lot of what they teach is very basic, and designed for the student that has never ridden before - so you will need to be patient. Come back and let us know what you think of the course when you are done. Good luck and have fun! |

@ZeroGravity360 it will also save you $$$ on insurance, don't forget to report it to your insurance company ASAP.
I understand insurance rates are higher for younger riders, fortunately I don't have to worry about that at my age.

Excellent! I gained a lot from the course I took. And yeah, it was more than a few bucks, but worth it. I'm kind of a broken record when I talk to people, because especially if someone is nervous about wanting to learn to ride, I always recommend the class.

This is sort of related to this thread, when I was cleaning my chain today I put in in gear while on my stand and it seems that there is a little snag in it. I kind of flings the top of the chain once a turn. like i said it was DISGUSTING! The previous owner was horrible. I used and entire can of cleaner and my hands still were dirty after i touched it. when is a good time to just replace it? or is there something I can do to repair it

Seriously calipers need to be serviced with every pad change, thus assures the braking system is working perfectly, anything less is irresponsible IMHO. Write-up available upon request, it's quick and easy enough to do, what's your personal safety worth?
