I'm starting to think it might have been worth the cost to just have bkmoto do the install.

I should find a less exposed place to mount the shock reservoir. As cool as it is to show it to the world, I'd rather it be more shielded from damage.

Found a destroyed headlight on Craigslist for $20. On my way home from picking it up, my fairing decided to snap. I just can't win.

After fixing my fairing with fiberglass mat and epoxy, not only is it holding tight, but I think the fairing actually fits better than before. A fairing gap appeared on the right side of my bike after I crashed it (which fixed the infamous ninja 300 fairing gap on the left lol). Apparently the solution to fairing gap issues is to keep breaking the bike?
Was busy during the week so I only got back to working on the headlight tonight. Wasn't about to waste absurd amounts of time to nicely take apart the already smashed headlight I bought so I just took a hammer to it until I could remove what I needed. Yay smashing things! I have the projectors on the headlight unit now but I haven't bought anything to seal the headlight back together so until tomorrow or something. I'll finish this over the long weekend. Oh and for the record, I think the Ninja 300 headlights are way brighter than the ZX-6R headlights. I knew it had been kinda sketchy riding at night, but I didn't realize exactly how awful the ZX-6R headlights were until I put the stock headlights back on. But hey, the ZX-6R headlights look cooler!

Finally finished. Working on my bike takes longer cuz I get distracted by additional small things while i already have the bike apart. Since i had the gas tank off already, I touched up the frame cuz there were a few spots where the paint was flaking and frame starting to rust. Since I had to wait for the paint to dry, i put on new grips, removed the rust from the bar ends, and painted the bar ends too.
So after a lot of frustrating trial and error with the headlights, they work! While snooping around, i discovered the source of my lack of high beam. Somehow along the way a wire coming from the controls was cut. 2+ year old problem finally solved lol. With the new bixenon projectors, I could only get one side to light up and couldn't for the life of me figure out what was wrong. Turns out the plugs to the ballasts can plug-in in both directions but won't work with reverse polarity. Still have to dial in the aiming but damn they work so well.

Do a bixenon in the low beam only. Keep the Halogen high. Tether the bixenon solenoid to be powered in addition to the halogen high. Best of both worlds. Good color mixture by adding the halogen. Using HID only for high beams makes the color wash out a little, which makes depth perception a little funny, IME. Plus it looks great with the asymmetry, IMO. I'm using these on my car to fire the bixenon solenoid with my halogen high beams. It's wonderful thing when I use the high beams https://www.theretrofitsource.com/co...l#.V82V2JgrI2w EDIT: dammit. Missed the date a little there |

Pissed me off to no end to have to take the bumper off again, open the headlights again, etc etc. Now they're great though. Retros are one of those things that you hate to have to do, but once you do it, you'll never go back to crappy headlights again. |

I think there are breather vents built in. I assume that's what the little tubes in the back are supposed to do.

Yes. But for some reason, not all headlights vent well enough when you change the heat source. Just keep an eye on it. Likely you'll be fine, but a little moisture after a retro isn't out of the normal.

I attempted to do a valve adjustment back in May. I ****ed it up big time and ended up with bent valves. Had about ~44k miles on the original engine and had hoped to get it to 100k, but I guess it wasn't meant to be. Finally got a new engine in it recently. The engine only has 1k miles on it so I think my bike will continue kicking for a good long time.

The valves were last checked and adjusted at 12k. The intake valves were still in spec. The exhaust side just needed minor adjustment. Not bad at all after over 30k miles. I had been hoping that I wouldn't have had to touch them again after that adjustment, but now I get to start all over with a practically brand new engine lol.

Bike is running with new engine but now I'm having cooling system issues. When I was filling it up with new coolant and trying to burp out the air, it just started boiling out instead. I got my right leg soaked with coolant on a ride. The problems never end...

If so, the radiator should be full. If, when riding, the overflow bottle fills and the radiator level is low after the engine has cooled, you may have a head gasket issue. Try replacing the radiator cap first though. That's what our Ninja 500 did. Had to lap the head and replace the head gasket. Pressure from the combustion chamber was over-pressurizing the cooling system and pushing the coolant out. |

Oh I guess I never posted a resolution. I didn't have time to deal with the radiator immediately since it was the end of the fall semester and I still needed to use the bike since my backup bike still needs repairs I just added water to the radiator before every ride. Some of it still boiled out but no overheating issues. Did that for several weeks. Eventually I noticed that fluid stopped boiling out and I didn't need to add water anymore. Huh ok. Went back to do another cooling system flush and found some thick grey goop sitting at the bottom of the coolant overflow tank that was preventing anything from going out the overflow tube. Looks like I boiled out whatever was clogging the radiator. Cleaned up the goop, refilled system with Engine Ice, and had no issues since. My problem ended working itself out. Go figure.
