Where to get stainless carb screws?
My wife and I just bought her first motorcycle, a 2005 Ninja 250. Today i spent the day getting familiar with it. I stripped it down, changed the plugs, checked and adjusted the valves, and cleaned the carbs. The previous owner let it sit for about a year and the carbs were needing a cleaning.
The screws on the float bowls need replacing. Is there anybody that offers an aftermarket stainless version? If not, do you guys know the size, pitch and length of the screws? Im excited to get this little bike going, and im really impressed with the Ninja 250 so far. |

They're M4x12 (.7) Replacing them with stainless allen head screws will make your life easier.
I got mine from z1 when I ordered float bowl gaskets and some other stuff. They might bang you on shipping, if I can remember it was $7 flat rate. So stock up on other hardware, gaskets, etc you might need to save future money. I did the caps at the same time so it was 16 screws total. http://www.z1enterprises.com/detail.aspx?ID=3818 And if you are gonna use lock washers (I didn't) you could go with 4x14 if you're anal. http://www.z1enterprises.com/detail.aspx?ID=3819 |

I got the 12 mm length screws and they worked fine for the float bowls, but not so well for the top where the diaphragms go. You need the 14 for those. The 12 worked, but it didnt grab enough thread for my liking.

Weird, even the 12s should have gone all the way through and stuck through the flange. Or sat flush at the very least...

Yesterday i took the carb apart again, and the two that hold the idle adjuster bracket had to be replaced with the stock ones because the stainless ones pulled the first couple threads out. I shoulda bought the 14s to be safe.

FYI, from what I'm reading on other forums, 14 are the stock lenght and I ended up with 15's which worked well too.
