Depends upon the location. I know Minnesota last year in February did not.
Edited to add, according to their web site only the Long Beach show has test rides. http://motorcycleshows.com/content/demo-rides-10 |

I went to the Minneapolis show last year, they seemed to have a fairly decent vendors row. |

I always hit these shows in Chicago. We get the show in february.
Kind interested to see the BMW G310GS mini ADV bike. Looks like fun to me. Hope they have one to see.

Went yesterday. Good show, though Yamaha didn't bring a MotoGP bike this year (a big part of why I go every year). I am disappoint, but whatever.
Coolest single thing I saw was the Max BMW (area dealer) booth, where they had a couple of mechanics disassembling an S1000RR engine all the way down to the last bolt, then building it back up. Over and over, all day long. I had to stay away or I would have blown the whole day watching them. Note to self: This stuff is way, way easier when the engine isn't in the bike, and is bolted to a stand. Yamaha Champions Riding School did a really good stage presentation and I picked up some food for thought... might post over in At Speed or Riding Skills on this. Fun thing... BMW had a "track experience" VR setup.. an Oculus Rift headset. You hop on an S1000RR and it takes you on a lap of some track out west. Was fun and allowed you to practice looking through the corners. For Ninjetters/little bike lovers: All the basic small-class bikes (Ninja300, RC390, R3, CBR300) are the same, with the exception of BNGs. Kawi had a "winter test" edition, matte black with white graphics and "Kawasaki Racing" on it. I forgot to look for the Versys 300 but that's just because ADV bikes don't interest me. The new Suzuki 250 wasn't there. The new Honda Rebel had its own booth... contemporary bobber styling, pretty nifty if you're into that sort of thing. The new BMW G310 was there and looks good. Doesn't feel cheap. Seat is interesting... it really locks you in place. I'd consider this as a commuter bike. For @"A" since he mentioned it: If you went you know that electrics are pretty much the same. I had an interesting conversation with a Zero exec at their booth. He told me they're in a place where the big leaps in development (range, etc.) are pretty much done for awhile. He also said that the next big raft of changes will take place in the 2018-2020 timeframe but of course wouldn't say more than that. Probably something like new models. They're looking at millennials as the market. They have and do look at the sporty/sportbike market but sportbikes are a tiny niche, and electrics are a tiny niche, so niche within a niche equals an unworkable market. Bikes that got my attention... remember I'm a sportbike rider both street and track, don't care about the dirt, and I'm an old fart so retro has some appeal to me. Therefore these reflect my biases. Here they are in no particular order: Honda CBR1000RR: REALLY liking it. Looks great, and they've managed to make a literbike feel compact. Nice and narrow up front, reasonably easy reach to the ground even for me (I'm 5'7" on a good day), and the SP1 with the electronic suspension is pretty darned cool. (Other literbikes... new GSX-R1000 feels a lot like my 750. ZX-10R was new last year and is the same. S1000RR is the same. R1 is the same... didn't bother looking at the R1S because dumbed-down versions of track weapons don't interest me.) New R6: I paid attention because this is my track bike. Hasn't changed much in essence... new styling looks great. They say they've made it narrower up front but it's not that slim. Still the tallest sportbike out there. Ducati Supersport: Sport-tourer with emphasis on the sport. I love the concept of this bike. Looks like a great street-practical machine that doesn't dumb down the sportbike vibe. Cafe racers... I have a soft spot for these and they're the only retro bikes I consistently like. It's an aesthetics thing, I guess. -- Ducati Scrambler cafe racer: For some reason this bike made me smile. Compact, seemed friendly like a puppy. I'd look at one. I'd like to ride one. -- Yamaha XSR900 with clubman bars. I rode the XSR at a demo day and liked it. The clubman bars nail the cafe vibe really well, but the tail cowling is hideous. -- BMW R Nine T Racer. Holy crap, my pants are fitting funny. Very long reach, lay-down riding position, really hits the "racer" end of the cafe racer spectrum. Looks better in person than in photos. Love this bike. I know that a lot of people are jaded about these shows, but I always find it a worthwhile trip. This year I also snagged a really good show-special price on a Pit Bull front stand.

I enjoyed seeing more smaller displacement (under 500cc) bikes in the big names.
Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawi, even KTM have strong representation in the small displacement machines. The Honda CRF250 Rally was just announced few weeks ago, seems like a good candidate for those looking for an ADV KTM/BMW GS alternative: I sat on the Honda Rebel 250/500.. didn't take pictures because I was focused on getting a feel of the bike and compare between the riding positions.. they are very nice bikes for their prices. Didn't find much representation in electric bikes.. likely more of them at a bicycle show than moto show. |

Went Saturday. Enjoyed the show as always. Was bummed the Triumph wasn't there. Can't recall if they had been last year as i wasn't as into them at the time. Would have really liked to have a better look at the Bobber.
Got a good show deal on the Sena 10c with the handlebar controller. And finally had some costume earplugs made. Now that was weird! The stunt show was nuts! Just about touching the rafters!! But if one more vender asked if i wanted my glasses cleaned or my work boots shined i would have started throwing things!!! Haha

Yes. That's the SP variant. They also had the base model (if you can call a $16,000 motorcycle "base").
The SP has the electronic Ohlins suspension, titanium exhaust and various other bits and pieces not found on the basic bike. There's also an SP2 homologation special coming, which is another step up and really meant only for racing. For more on the SP and differences between the SP and SP2, check here: http://www.hondaprokevin.com/2017-cb...otorcycle-news

I went Sat and the only thing i can complain about is parking was event price due to i think special olympics or something going on at the same time haha. Always a good reason to just get away and look at bikes during this time of year. I took a CSS pamphlet and TPM had there schedual printed out too for the year, they also had N2 trackdays there.
I just walked around and looked, i dont go into much detail because im not in the market. I still want a superduke, and im not sure where my ducati future lies. Just sitting on them the 899 and 959 are always alittle too small for me just like my 848 (not motor wise, but in a tuck or hanging off i feel too cramped). So that leaves me with the 1199 or 1299, not sure if i want one of the big ones though. Same with the 636, i test one of those years ago and i like the motor, but just feel cramped on it. So id have to go ZX-10.......and im liking the new ZX-10s. Ah who knows, if you like walking around looking at bikes its worth it. Tickets always have coupons with them and can be had for under 15 bucks. Grabbed a pretzel on the way out and caught some new pokemon, it was a good trip!

BTW, near the entrance of the show Progressive collect some info and give you a necklace w/scan.. stop by some designated booths in the show and get your tag scanned allow for instant prizes.. I won two T-shirts got some free keychains and other freebies..
Kawasaki booth was offering $500 off new bike purchase before APR 2017 on 2016 or 2017 models.. I was suggested to make a deal with the local dealer before telling them the $500 off.. since the $500 discount is from Kawi corporate. I'm really digging the Ninja 1000. I must have sat and straddled over 50 bikes at the show. I figure where where else am I going to be able to abuse the bikes on the showroom floor and get a decent feel of the bike seating position without getting grief from salesperson. Move around on the seat.. grab the front brake.. compress the forks.. jump on the pegs.. compress the shock.. drop the bike.. etc.. |

Went to the show yesterday.
If Honda was there I couldn't find them. Found that really odd. Sat on a lot of bikes. Nothing really made me feel like I wanted to pry open my wallet and buy it. My oldest daughter, the only one of the four kids that doesn't ride, tried out the Harley ride experience thing that lets you start a bike and shift through the gears. The rider coach spend a lot of time with her going over the bike and showing her everything. When she was done she walked up to me and said "No...... just No." Guess she won't be riding anytime soon. I scanned my show pass all over the place and didn't win a damn thing. Did get a nice little tin coffee mug from Progressive for being a customer. filled out a bazillion prize entry cards so I can get more junk email. Good thing I have an account set up for that. Overall it was a fun way to spend 3 or so hours on a snowy day. But I felt kind of Meh when I left. |

As a guy who rides a 10-year-old R6 on the track...
If you like R6s ("R6-es", not the dumbed-down "S" models), then you'll like the new bike. Feels very much the same. It's definitely not an all-new platform... more of an update. Yamaha really got the bike right in 2006. The did an update in 08 and wisely just left it alone ever since. It's still an awesome track bike after all these years. I think this new iteration is in part to get in line with the advancements in electronics that we're seeing from the competition, and to update the styling. But mostly it's to silence the legions of R6 fans who have been calling for an update for years now. Personally I think they did the right thing. Ain't broke, don't fix. But having said that, I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see them put the triple from the FZ-09 in this bike in years to come, now that everyone else is moving away from the 600-cc niche.

Meh, I'll pass on both of those and take the BMW G310GS. Appears to come with suspension from this century. I'm actually pretty excited about the bike.
