Chloebelle fall down, go boom
I never made a post about it, but I managed to go down on a curve a couple months back (Jan 28). Knee's still healing, and Harumi is still in serious disrepair. ;~;
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Not pictured, but my gloves and pants are also toast. Jacket might be patchable, since it's just abrasive damage. Harumi'll need about $600 in repairs (including new rubber) before she's road-worthy again. :< Last futzed with by Alex; March 19th, 2023 at 03:20 PM. I'm sorry you crashed, Chloe. I hope your knee is OK soon. What happened to it that's taking so long to recover?
I had a glove problem myself last fall, when I crashed on the kart track and my right glove wore through and let the back of my index finger get ground down a little. What gear were you wearing that let your hand and leg get scraped up? I pretty much always wear a leather jacket and pants now, with the exception being an armored winter suit when it's cold. |

"Gear" included normal pants, Bilt Connie jacket and gloves (jacket was decent, but gloves were absolute crap to begin with), Bell Vortex helmet, and a pair of cold-weather boots that held up and protected my feet surprisingly well (and they're still usable). |

Bummer! Road rash do suck, yes it do.
Leather next time? Or at least real riding jeans/pants?

I quickly looked for some other waterproof gloves and found the Sedici Firenze Waterproof Gloves. They are explicitly advertised on cycle gear as having increased abrasion protection: "Double layer leather on palm with thermo-set palm slider and comfort layer for increased abrasion protection" I guess we can't assume that gloves advertised as "motorcycle gloves" are suitable for motorcycle riding. I hope you heal up nicely and get some awesome impract and abrasion resistant gloves to replace your Bilt Connie's. It's probably going to cost you, but arguably it's worth spending money on them because damaging your hands is painful, sometimes not repairable and can stop you from working.

Leather doesn't have to be terribly expensive. My AGV Sport "Willow" pants were about $200. I got another pair of no-name leather pants from www.wickedstock.com for $90. They have visibly lower quality sewing and the leather is about 3/4 as thick, but they are racing style with armor, and I'd take them over ordinary jeans any day.

I use the same pants (perforated version) as my daily wear. Great deal. That's roughly what I paid.
My jacket is an a* GP-R I bought used for about $200-225 or something like that. A visit to the fabric store and a relaxed evening of sewing and I retrofitted a zipper half to the jacket to mate with the pants. Closeout race gauntlets and Bilt boots complete the set. All in, I'm head-to-toe leather protected for somewhere between $500 and $600... and the gear is so durable I've been wearing it for something like seven years. When you get a hospital bill, it really puts the cost into perspective. I wrote a blog post about this if you're interested, with real numbers from my experience. Click the blog link in my profile to find it. Wearing serious gear is, to me, much more of a convenience/lifestyle question than a cost one. I do have to adjust my expectations and how far I'm willing to go out of my way to protect myself on the bike. Others have different priorities--I respect that. But the bottom line is, you make your choice, and you live with the consequences.

Good thing you had a full helmet. That could have been bad. Well, worse than it was, anyway. I'm sure it hurt enough as is. |

get some leathers.
get some riding jeans. or get some overpants. I guess being in the States, you would have a variety of shops selling motorcycle apparels cheaper than us in the Asian region. Please do wear proper attire. ![]()

Sorry to hear about your crash. I hope you recover shortly and get your moto repaired soon. Your knee injury reminds me of an injury I sustained in a crash about 42 years ago. It took a long time( ~2 months) to heal as bending my knee aggravated the wound. I have an 1.5" scar to remind me to look ahead for gravel in corners and to wear appropriate riding gear.

Really, any time you bail off at speed you almost certainly will end-up with that type of damage on your helmet. I bailed on the Interstate years ago with my wife on the back when we hit a deer. Both of us had identical damage to our helmets - deep wide gouges running from the top left to the bottom right of the helmet across the visor. No idea why anyone would ride with anything less than a full-face helmet. Glad to hear you are healing up well Chloebelle! |

Glad you're healing up! No worries about the bike.
For gearing up the bottom half of you, consider a RST 2 piece. Prices are good, and the protection is excellent. (I've tested abrasion resistance of them at 140 mph) Also the sizing seems to run a little thicker than scrawny Euro style leathers like Astars and Dainese. Great for Americans if you know what I mean. I'm a beer and chicken wing loving dude.
