Total NEWBIE (But I LOVE IT!)
What's going on everyone?! Totally new to the motorcycle arena and to the forum as well. I picked up a 01 Ninja 250 on CL a few weeks ago and absolutely love it! Have my motorcycle permit and just graduated the MSF course this past weekend so I'm going to be headed out to get that endorsement as soon as I can stomach those DMV lines Odometer is reading 25,000 + miles on the bike so it definitely has some character. There are no huge issues on it that I am aware of; though after riding it a few times I am getting a little wary of the chain health.
I want to be able to do some basic repairs on the bike, and also just be knowledgable about the parts in case anything does goes wrong and it needs a quick fix. Any time I've done a Google search this forum pops up with a TON of useful info! Excited to be here, and I may post and ask for some advice soon! Until then I'll just be around!! |

Hello Tiarre, it's good to meet you!
Have you put some chain lubricant on the chain yet? What makes you doubt its health? The chain is a serious part of the drive train, and can hurt you if it fails. |

Welcome.
This is a good resource for all things Ninja - https://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/Ninja250_Howto Here's the chain section - https://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/Final_Drive As TJ noted, best to make sure the chain is in good condition, properly adjusted, and lubed to prevent any issue on the road. I also recommend checking the condition and age of your tires (as I always do...). Tires are very important for your safety, so look them over closely for drying and cracking and check the date on the sidewall. It's 4 numbers in an oval like "2409". The first two are the week of the year (24th week), the second are the last digits of the year (2009). Anything more than 5 years old is pushing it in my opinion. Some good how-to videos covering chain cleaning and adjustment, among other maintenance items - http://www.canyonchasers.net/video/ |
